54:00 Roth earnings may be taxable after 59 1/2 if they're taken out before 5 years from your first Roth, however, once one is 59 1/2, regardless of anything else, there is no 10% penalty. The 10% penalty only applies before 59 1/2 (and other contingencies).

@12:08 you said that the MAGI for ACA Premium Tax Credit doesn't show up on your tax return. That's not true. It shows up on Form 8962, Line 2a. You calculate the MAGI by completing Worksheet 1-1 found in the Instructions for Form 8962 on page 6.

Form 8962 is where you calculate your ACA Premium Tax Credit.

Rob, I agree with you about staying in the market regardless of who wins the election. Warren Buffett feels the same way. I have been staying the course since 1977.

Besides ideas on guests you interview, how about certain topics you could delve into more also ! Like : given the dismal performance of bond funds like BND over the last 10 years, could replacing bonds in a portfolio with Buffer ETF's provide downside protection like bonds but outperform on the upside also?

Rob - in regard to the issue about moving IRA money to a Roth or not:

I feel you have over complicated the matter.

Whether a person retains the money in the IRA or moves it to a Roth, the investments will grow to the same amount, either way after taxes (all other things being equal). So, the issue is not an investment issue,

The issue is whether a person's tax rate will be higher or lower in the future.

You, of course, will say it is impossible for anybody to know for sure, because there are so many factors that will affect future tax rates.

That's right. But I submit, by not making an assumption about the future, a person is effectively saying, the tax rates in the future will just be the same as they are now.

As a specific case, a person needs to take in consideration, whether a conversion of some money from an IRA to a Roth now, immediately bumps him/her up into a higher tax bracket.

Bottom Line: a person needs to get a piece of paper, a pencil and a calculator and run some numbers based on future forecast of his/her tax rates.

One-size-fits-all qualitative conclusion to this matter doesn't work well for some non-trivial portion of your viewers.

7:00 "If it's a split govt, nothing much will get done."

That's exactly how I like it. Leave it alone & stop mucking things up. Stay out of the way.

Thanks! I'm looking forward to watching your demo with NR. Please include playing around with Roth conversions. And I wonder if they assume you pay taxes from the IRA or a regular account.

Rob, as you look into interviews, can you update the interview playlist? I'm pretty sure it's missing some people.

Government and debt seem to grow massively under every administration. They better figure out how to cut spending before we get buried under an avalanche of debt.
