Ibis Cycles released the HD6 as a enduro race bike. This 165mm enduro bike is a dedicated mullet with a 29in front wheel and 27.5 rear. But how does it compare to the Ibis Ripmo and is this still a good bike in 2024? Let's find out in this long term bike review!

Love my HD6 with the new Onyx 38/Topaz Prime shock! Great video Mo!

Sounds like you’re ready to see what the new Ripmo will be like! I’m patiently waiting.

I am the same height as you are and ride a large in my frames, honestly I never thought to go XL so maybe I am missing something. I run mullet and love it but I ride HT so that may be the difference, but I am sold on mullet and don't see myself going back any time soon. Great vid and review, always good to see you two posting.

Without having really watched the video, I kind of agree with the title. While I wasn’t super jazzed about the travel numbers, the bike rides like a Ripmo with better kinematics. I wouldn’t even say it feels like much more travel, just better quality. It’s active enough off the top with much better bottom out characteristics.

I’m reluctant to anything positive about the bike being a mullet, because I think it’s kind of a moot point, but I do tend to corner better on the HD6 than my Ripmo. It also feels a little better on jumps for me.

I bought the frameset not being a big bike or enduro guy, but I was pleasantly surprised that it behaves much more like a trail bike.

Do you think 155 cranks would be more appropriate for that BBH?

Possibly if you went with a 170 up front rather than the 180 it might feel less "chopper-like", provided it doesn't drop the bb too much. Also, the choice of tire combination is a big deal with the mullets. A different tire combo might help with that feeling.

This bike comes completely alive with a Smashpot in a Fox 38

IBIS listened to their professional racers and made a bike for hard charging riders unlike all their usual bikes. I think people need to ride steeper and harder stuff to really enjoy this bike, but that small chain stay across all sizes is not great for guys at your height, you have so much space to move back and forth.

I have to wonder how much suspension choice had to do with the unbalanced feel. The HD6 is progressive enough out back that it can make good use of a high volume air shock like an X2 or Vivid or better yet a coil. Obviously it comes stock with an X2 and I've seen a lot of them instantly swapped to coil. Also as someone who rode a Topaz for 3 years, it's not a great shock, adding enough spacers to keep it from clapping even on a cascade link wrecked its small bump sensitivity. For me personally, DW is great for pedaling, but for downhill Horst just tracks so much smoother through chunk.
