The fact that the 4th unit hasn't found the vizards or Urahara's shop becomes more understandable when you remember that they together have the former captain and vice captain of the kido corps and one of the most intelligent former-captains in soul society history and the former captain of the stealth forces, so collectively they had all the knowledge of how the unit would be looking for them, and people who could easily come up with a kido or technology to counter every tactic the group would be likely to use

Nel and Shinji were quickly able to form a genuine connection to Ichigo because they thought he was of their kind.
To them he was either a shinigami turned hollow or a hollow turned shinigami.

My headcanon about Arrancar physical changes:
- Combining with what Kubo says, since Arrancar/Hollows are "soul based" beings. I see their physical appearance as also partly (or strongly) a manifestation of how they see themselves or think about themselves. Barragan looks like an old man because he internally sees himself as a grizzled old King. What they think about themselves and how they picture themselves affects their outward appearance to an extent, hence why the changes over time are minimal to non-existent

18:00 Surprised that alot of people were shocked from this. The person that ends up tracking and finding Rukia after she didn't report back to SS was an omnitsukido operator during the Grand Fischer Arc. That job doesnt fit the description of the then known Units of the Omnitsukido so it would make sense that job would fall under the unnamed 4th Unit Corps.

It would make sense the Vizards wouldn't be found because they are all vice-captain or above level Shinigami and have Urahara's support. (Isshin didn't know the Vizards because they disappeared before he became a captain) Especially since Urahara's the type to withhold information from others if he doesn't need to divulge it.

Barrigan could have been the first or one of the first dead to become a hollow considering how his power relates to death and decay. It seems to be more of a primordial power than the other arrancar's powers. Him also being the old king of hueco mundo could also show just how ancient he is.

I always Interpreted what Ulquiorra says about his origin to mean something like him having been born at the bottom of a pit... A pit of other menos/adjuchas that were all endlessly feeding on each other until only one remained.

I always just assumed the arrancar's appearance was their human self when alive. Although that does raise the question of why wouldn't there be more eldery hollows who died from natural causes? I think that's likely where the "reiatsu changes appearance" thing must come into place.

I think a big part of Barragan's appearance is also the fact that Barragan's aspect of death is Senescence or Aging, his power is literally to accelerate time and age things so it makes a lot of sense that he would look older than the others.

I figured Baraggan's crown was his "mask", not his entire skeletal body

Since his crown wasnt damaged much by Soi Fon it would make sense why he didn't leak out like Nel did, but it could have been a forgotten or underused plot point that didn't apply to the scene, though a child-like Baraggan at the end that Soi Fon would assassinate would have been a cooler and more brutal ending than Hachigan teleporting his hand inside Baraggan

To your first point, it’s explained with hollows wanting to evolve and have to keep eating hollows or they devolve. The same concept w Neil when she was struck she leaked out more reatsu than blood vs Barragon whose ability killed him from within before he could possibly devolve

I think Akon having the release command: "Dissect" for his Zanpakuto, would be really cool. It would fit very well with his whole Mad Scientist vibe!

I always thought it would make the most sense to have an Arrancar take on a form resembling what the primary hollow personality of the Menos looked like when they were human. Menos are made up of multiple Hollow souls, but only the one in control has any sentience, and once they're safeguarded from regressing into Gillians (either by by getting a part of them eaten or becoming Arrancars), that state of affairs becomes locked in, and the other Hollows that make up an Arrancar are pretty much just dense reiryoku at that point

Almost makes it seem like the face of the arrancar being the original devourer is either a retcon, or possibly mistranslation, or maybe just Kubo being vague. He originally made it seem as though any strong spirit could take control.

Maybe he was being mysterious, and devourer could either mean the one who originally started eating hollows, or the one who decided to while fighting for control of the collective.

That could obviously be the same person, but it's unclear whether it has to be. My vote is for retcon.

Its important to note that Nel and Barragan were in different states when they were injured. Barragan was in his released state; Nel was in her sealed state, and the damage pertained specifically to her hollow mask which represents her heart which is now damaged and leaking reiatsu. So you could say her heart is leaking out spiritual life force and her body regressed to childhood as a consequence of that. Barragan's mask in his sealed state was never damaged, so it wouldn't impact him the same way.
