This is how to use the Japanese Bullet Train (Shinkansen) in Japan!! We took the train twice, from Hiroshima to Osaka and later from Osaka to Tokyo. In this video, we are sharing our experience and explain step by step how to use the train because if you are travelling to Japan, you are most likely to take at least one trip on the Shinkanzen and it can be quite confusing at first. And since our channel is big on food, we include an Ekiben Bento box lunch food review! :)

I keep thinking of the movie. LOL It looks a lot cleaner than most of the trains I've taken in the States.

You can get the self heating ekiben (pull the string) to warm them up. Or use the microwave at the shop before you board.

I would like to mention, Eki-Ben is not really a brand of Bento shops, it just literally means "Station Bento" :D
Love watching this series and cant wait to see more videos from you in Japan, hopefully many! After 4 years there, I miss it so much :, (

Non-reserved tickets can be used at the automated ticket gates. But from the video, it looks like you and everyone else were transferring to the Osaka Loop Line and didn't want to waste the ticket so everyone was queuing at that manned counter/gate. If you inserted the ticket at the gate there, you probably will not get it back because usually the train journey ends when you leave the station. As for the bento box, while there are now some self-heating ones (you pull a string at the bottom and it heats itself) that you can buy at the station, the reason that people usually eat it cold is because smell from cold food does not travel. And since Japanese people do not like to bother others, cold bento it is. Imagine the smell from a variety of hot bento boxes in one car, or when that one person brings McDonalds onto a plane.

The "Shin" in station names means "new" so no, they are not necessarily Shin- (same meaning here) kansen stations by definition and not all shinkansen stations are named shin-. But it's a pretty good rule of thumb, just don't get hang up on it.
As for the ekiben, I think it's partly bad choice (fried stuff) but it should still not be bad. That is a bit strange. I mean you get decent ones all over japan in the supermarket and konbinis.

I am Japanese.
Trains in Japan are not delayed. It is abnormal for trains in other countries to be delayed.

Last month I took the Shinkansen from Odawara to Kyoto. Someone told me the Shinkansen never gets delayed. Our scheduled train was canceled when we arrived at the Odawara station as well as most of the trains afterwards due to a regional power outage. Very helpful staff at the JR counter told us just take the next one... thanks to getting reserved seats with luggage - the conductor sat us immediately. One thing I learned is that the reserved luggage seats were mostly empty since no one wants to pay the extra, so if something like this happens you are almost guaranteed a seat. So it might be worth the extra to get a reserved luggage seat.

They also sell bento boxes with a heating pad underneath so you can warm it up before eating.

Mt. Sakurajima is erupting now. It would be exciting to see the 🌋 volcano

Thank you for the video and bringing back good memories from previous Japan-Trips!

One little note to add: There is nowadays absolutely no need for some of these third party train ticket application/websites anymore, often they charge more then the tickets really are!
Tourists from abroad are able to book tickets for the Shinkansen in proper english language directly on the original railway website without any hassle!
You can use a credit card to pay or you can pay when picking up the tickets at the train station - several options available!

And another thing: Yes - there are cheaper tickets if you book in advance!

Fuji is actually a dormant volcano although it hasn’t really erupted in some time. You have to be really careful up there though. There was a nasty rock slide that buried hikers. Unfortunately if something happens on Fuji you feel it in Tokyo and the surrounding towns. You feel the strongest at the kiso valley and the suicide forest (yes it’s called that).

Hmm, Ive probably had some 200 Ekiben, and unless I bought something with an item I dont like ie Pork, I find Ekiben sensational.

There are the self heat train meals. Mike Chen had one and he said it was ok. There’s also the snack stores

1, 000円以上もする冷えた駅弁なんか食うより、ホカ弁(死後)で作りたてののり弁(500円以下)買って車中に持ち込んだ方がずっとずっとリーズナブルだし、おいしいよ。

Oh, i went to the movie theater for the Brad Pitt movie a few years ago because i`m a dummy and i thought that Lady Gaga is in it. I wish that i`d have read the novel as well. The food plate looks really good with the rice and mushrooms and veggies or whatever it is. 😋

Tonkatsu in bento boxes is cold and tasteless. If you want to eat delicious tonkatsu, you have to buy it freshly fried at the store.

The rapid pressure changes from passing through tunnel after tunnel gave me a bad headache.

I would travel to Japan just for the food if it wasn't so far and expensive :(
