Guild Wars actually refers to the lore of the game. The three human nations of Ascalon, Kryta, and Orr were at war (the third know Guild War) when the Searing happened, sinking Orr in the process, and ending the Guild Wars. Players are experiencing the world after the Guild Wars in GW1.

@Andreazor With menial tasks I think they meant things like "Go to x, kill 10 of mob y and bring me their ears" times 10000 that's in most MMO's these days. Also, it's meant to give you some kind of backgroundstory to your character, so you don't start of like the meanest, badest hero around from the start. Also, you play WoW, rite?

@Andreazor You have the choice to do it or not. If you don't want to do the menial job, move on and do something else to your liking. Remember events can cascade, meaning once an event has started, it may lead to another event.

Example, if you refuse to water the cows, it may lead to another event such as food supply getting low and townsfolk start to suffer or whatever Anet is going to implement. That's the beauty of events in GW2. Action leads to reaction.

I thought they said they didnt want you doing menial tasks, yet you're supposed to water cows and help farmers?
This game promises way more then it'll ever be able to deliver.

@Zzulu2 It isn't heavily instanced. Get your facts straight, it's just a portal seperating a zone and a city. It saves time on repairs and maintenience that way.

Actually this game WILL have world pvp but only if you choose it, what i mean by this is you can go to a place called Mists which are Week-long battles World vs World (something like server vs server) and where THOUSANDS of players battle it out in HUGE maps where you can capture fortresses and use lots of stuff.

It is 1 giant massive EPIC war!!!
