thanks for the great video. I bought the exact same 39mm explorer you feature here, with the applied hex logo - the applied hex logo is the only thing I'm not mad about - it can be distracting from the hour hand, as the shiny hex vaguely resembles the mercedes hand. I'm even thinking about sourcing a no logo dial and getting it installed, or selling this one and buying a no logo, or one with the script logo, or even the printed logo. Was thinking about the 36mm version too, but I love the domed saphire crystal... The V1 with the faux old lume looks cool too...

I bought the 39mm Version 1 with the printed dial last year and wear it daily, just love it. At this point wiht the new Tudor Ranger being released I think i will wait to see if there is a homage from SM, which I think would be incredible. Great video!

While the 39mm indices are applied, they are the same font as the 1016 style and still have that 1016 feel IMO as opposed to the Tisell homage which uses font like the modern 21470

I think on this occasion I'd opt for the 39mm. Just seems a little more well rounded and glad they've finally got consistent branding.

I wonder if they will ever come out with a 36 mm.. with applied indices. That would be something I would opt for otherwise it would be the 39. It's a beautiful watch thank you for bringing it to us.

You can get the 36 w applied indices and boxed sapphire

I wish they’d release a v3 of the 39mm with the applied numerals expanded a bit. They look a touch small I think

A great review . But, and maybe it’s me, but the SAN Martin website still shows both watches with painted indieces and the Ali Express website I think is dreadfully confusing.

I prefer the 39mm, it just looks like the proportions are nicer, and the domed crystal and applied indices make it my favourite current San Martin.

San Martin is really starting to change my mind on Rolex homages. This watch just screams quality! Just a great looking watch!

Great review.

Cheers!

Must agree, that domed crystal really sets the watch off. Also, irrespective of the size difference, the applied indices do make the 39mm look like a grown up version.

I actually like/prefer applied indexes, the smaller bezel proposition and the dome crystal of your 39mm, but prefer the 36mm in size as it's a dial only watch...
--> thankfully, SanMartin has issued a 36mm with all the good things of the 39.

I feel like the 39mm is the modern take and the 36mm is the retro feel. I have the Tiffany dial in now and it's amazing! actually feels really similar to my Rolex OP 36mm

Nice review. After about 4 years being really into watches, despite the wonderful things I hear, I still haven’t pulled the pin on a SM. I don’t know why, everytime I go to buy one a little voice in my head is saying “they’re just designs from famous companies” and it’s really annoying because i can’t see past that. And it’s not even that I haven’t had a homage watch, I have. I think nowadays, watches even the homage ones are starting to creep up in price. I live in Australia, so the Aussie dollar is pretty weak, so that also doesn’t help.

The explorer 1016 and the modern one, are the only expensive watch I’d ever want if I could afford, and I love the classic explorer layout. Do SM do these explorers with an oyster style case better than others?

Great video showing the comparison. I prefer the flat crystal vs doomed, but I do like the applied indices. Such a toss up.

The 39. It's better detailed and the size is good for my 7.25" wrist. Not into the Mercedes hand but this is a fine looking watch. San Martin are doing some amazing work. Their 39mm type b is on my wrist more than any other watch. Prices are starting to creep out of the AliX zone for me, tho. Thanks for the comparo!

I have both 36 and 39mm and they are both excellent pieces.
I’ll likely keep the 39mm only because it fits my 7.25 inch wrist better.
