Khanun our next typhoon threat - July 29, 2023

With its fairly enormous structure, Tropical Storm Khanun is gathering momentum as it slowly moves towards the north, over the wide open Western Pacific. The storm is expected to ramp up in its intensification over the weekend and early next week as it heads towards the Ryukyu islands, with Okinawa the main area of concern. Beyond that, the storm could lash the eastern coast of China, including the Shanghai region. At present, over 100 million people have a 10% chance of receiving damaging winds from the storm.

Rainfall will also be significant, with what's left of Typhoon Doksuri trailing through the Chinese interior at the moment. Khanun is expected to add to this in some places, and totals of 18 inches (450mm) are possible along the coast near Shanghai. The Philippines are also expecting to get a lot more rain, particularly in western Luzon due to an enhanced monsoon, partly in relation to the storms.

Elsewhere, an area of interest is increasing in its chances in the Atlantic, but is expected to recurve safely away from any land areas.

In the Eastern Pacific, an area of interest is becoming more likely to form but should remain out at sea.

Khanun (FalconPH) is expected to strengthen the SW monsoon (Habagat) bringing more rain to already extremely saturated land especially the western coast of Central Luzon. if you live on the provinces of Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Tarlac, and other neighboring provinces, be prepared for possible flooding

Your daily fun fact: last time Khanun was used it formed and first made lanfall on the north of luzon, it then did basically what talim did this year and later dissapated in the gulf of tonkin

Almost much of Central and Northern Luzon were saturated by rains and floods brought by Doksuri (Egay) and there's next, Khanun (Falcon).

But the problem, is the El Niño continued to grow in the EPAC and blobs of warm water in Europe and Japan that caused heatwaves.
