when it becomes about how good I am and how much I'm getting right it puts a lot of pressure on a person. So glad for this word. I receive it.

"Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my thoughts;
And see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."

This is very true! Thank you Pastor for explaining it !

As a Pastor myself, I find myself falling into that same trap. After all, the pastor CAN NOT EVER make a mistake. If he does his credibility is thrown out the window. The Lord is the One Who examines me.

I'm so thankful for your insight. I'm a brand new pastor of a brand new church and you've just described exactly what I'm dealing with internally. Thank you. I pray for grace that your revelation on this become mine as well. God bless!

I think a lot of people quote the scripture “search me and know me” which is true but it was written before the cross. When we get saved we get accepted into Christ and are in Union with him. The moment I look at my past I turn away from looking at him and towards sin. Introspection turns my attention towards me instead of towards him. Now throughout the day if I keep my eyes on him he will lead me into repentance through his love and mercy. Why does he lead me towards repentance? To mold me into the image of Christ all the more. Can we look like Jesus and walk with him inhabiting our being? Yes we can, but only if we truly accept our freedom and walk in it each day.

Introspection is an important part of the faith, it's all about finding a balance
Matthew 7:5
You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.
Psalm 4:4
Tremble, and do not sin;
Meditate in your heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.
Psalm 77:6
I will remember my song in the night;
I will meditate with my heart,
And my spirit ponders:
Lamentations 3:40
Let us examine and probe our ways,
And let us return to the Lord.
1 Corinthians 11:28
But a man must examine himself, and in so doing he is to eat of the bread and drink of the cup.
2 Corinthians 13:5
Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you—unless indeed you fail the test?

5 Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test!
2 Corithians 13:5
Paul instructed introspection in this verse. He concluded that nothing good dwelt within him. If scripture calls us to examine ourselves to ensure we are in the faith, how then can you say it is unhealthy? Bill did say it was dangerous to him to be introspective and he is right because it shows us our fleshy man and that we still need to put him to death everyday so Christ can live in us.
Don't live in introspection, but do examine yourself to see if you are in the faith.

I think we are all guilty of this at some point

Its funny because "introspection" isnt even scriptural. Thank God!!
