My Sony FX6 Build 2.0

Показать описание
Here's a look at my most recent Sony FX6 build as I like to run it after 4 years of heavy use. I've recently switched over to 5 inch monitors for a lot of my work. At this stage in my life, I really enjoy refining my kit. There have also been a few new products that have come out recently that help make this rig really tight.

One note about the monitor mount. There are an infinite amount of combinations you can create to find the solution you're looking for. This is what I'm working with as we speak but I might refine it slightly as I find parts that do things better. I imagine allowing the monitor to swivel horizontally would be nice to have as well as the vertical swivel I have now.

Here is a list of products used to build this rig in order of appearance. Using these affiliate links helps support my work and using them is much appreciated.

You should cut off the zipties with a flush cutter so there's no sharp ends sticking out. Love the build and the video 👍

Hey, very nice video . I would change the plate tho, apperently a lot of ppl having issues w the wooden camera and the tilta plate, they dont know what was causing the problem but they have all in common that they used smallrig batteries and either ones of these plates. Sony support as usual is not very helpful, but at this point 5 ppl came out that their board is fried, not the SDI, the main board. Sony said the same thing " some external compontent is faulty " and they just repaired the board for a sht ton of money. If i were u ... u would go for anton bauer .

Great build! I know you had a little discussion about downsizing to the SmallHD Ultra 5 from your 7" monitors. For myself, I was thinking of moving up to a 7". However your point about keeping things tight has me reconsidering. I have a 5" SmallHD Focus, but want focusing to be easier. Since you have both, do you think the increased resolution on the Ultra 5 (compared to the Focus 5) is enough of a difference instead of going to a 7" (like Touch 702 or Cine 7)?

Really lovely setup! Whats your guess when the FX6 MK II will be announced? With the new firmware update in Feb. 2026 in mind.

Because everything is so clearly linked, I got only one thing to ask. Which watch are you wearing? 😂

Nice build! Without the native LCD, do you just output the camera display to the Ultra 5?

Really love this build! How do you change settings without the native monitor?

Sexy, build! Wondering about the length of that top handle coming off the back. Ymmv but my fx6 top handle seems kinda flimsy so i'm wondering it that might be more torque than you want to put on it being that far off center? Always a fan of your stuff!

Hey Julien - are you screwing the wooden camera battery slide straight into the top plate? Not using the SmallHD tx bracket thing anymore?

I have a very similar set up. Only thing I'm on the fence about with mine is the weight distribution. The battery and lens is evenly distributed through the center line of the camera but the monitor pulls the build to the left. I've thought of adding my transmission and TC system to the back right of the rig (between battery plate and handgrip) to counter balance the monitor. Does the weight distribution bother you at all or do you feel it's negligible?

Assume you're using that plate and slide setup instead of the WC FX6 specific one, so that you're not locked into camera systems?

Can you recommend an EF-adapter with zero play for the Leicas? I tried the Metabones Cine (positive locking) adapter but it still has play with my Leicas - oddly it's rock-steady with my Tokina 28-70mm though.
