Also, if you fall in a busy rink, bring your arms fingers into your body so that no one will run over them.

I went skating today and I fell many times and it was COLD but you can't be afraid of falling because everyone will fall and no ones going to laugh at you because I guarantee you they went through the same process to. they might even come help you like they did with me. don't let falling make you less confident because failing means your trying and it prevents you from falling again

At my age (just turned 60) falling is a bigger issue than for younger folk. Falls turn into injuries more easily and injuries take longer to heal which means you're away from the ice longer. To help with that I wear knee and elbow pads when practicing. Also, getting out there and exercising, getting in shape, and getting used to it does help both by learning to fall softer and also by your body building up "resiliance" to better withstand the impacts.

That, anyway, has been my experience.

it's weird but i kind of like falling lol of course i hate the back falls on your tail bone - those are not nice, but still when i fall i feel more as "one" with ice later and get more relaxed, therefore i am more confident and not that scared afterwards to try new things and learn more. I sometimes need to fall in the beginning to actually get started with the skate and not be afraid to do things. it also makes me feel like im challenging myself so of course i'll fall cause im doing smth i've never done before and i'm learning. it brings more joy out of falling :)

I once fell forward while skating and I tried to hold my hands out in front of me to catch myself. And the ice legit made my hands slide right out from under me. And my face took the brunt of the fall. I some how cut my cheek 😂

Maybe I forgot if you have ot hear but falling talk should by all means go along with "getting up" talk. I always practice that with our little kids to make sure they do NOT lie around laughing before checking their safety status, don't get up with their hands in danger of being run over and also explaining the emergency rules. As in: If a person is visibly on the ground not getting up, everyone is to stop and not stare while running into each other. Also a reason to not remain lying on the ground if you're fine. People/coaches further away will have trouble recognising if you're OK or not.
Or to NOT resume skating after a "quick" unnoticed crash on the back of your head while the coach was concentrated elsewhere. Go to your coach, tell them you fell on your head. You might not notice instantly if it's safe to resume skating on your own.

Falld are scary enough for yourself, they're eventually even scarier for the people around you 😖

Thanks for the falling tips, Ice Coach. I would just like to add, wear a helmet. I fell last year and hit the back of my head, but because I was wearing a helmet, I suffered only a minor concussion, rather than a serious brain injury. If you don’t have a hockey helmet, a snowboarding helmet will do. They’re usually less expensive and they tend to be more comfortable, too. In Canada, a snowboarding helmet is accepted safety gear for new skaters and children, who have to wear a helmet to be allowed on the ice.

I find learning dolphin dive in volley ball or hip-hop dancing helpful in falling gently on ice. dolphin dive helps to reduce the fear of falling forward and one can also be more relaxed during the fall.

I fell today trying out some fancy footwork. It was all going well and controlled but then I got more creative 😁 and it happened. Sad I didn't capture the moment and what I was doing exactly when I fell backwards and hurt my elbow. Sometimes happens! 😔

I have only gone ice Skating twice and have come home both times with bruised knees but next time I’m definitely going to be wearing knee pads ( I can ice skate I am just learning to stop properly bc that is what led to all my falls)

I went ice skating for the first time in about 20 years yesterday (I was 8 yrs old last time), and I was not prepared for how difficult it would be. I could not stop laughing the whole time! I couldn’t believe it, seriously. And I fell 3 times, but somehow fell “correctly” with the first two falls being my knees first. The last fall, however, was like a big splat! I fell totally forward and my right elbow got all the shock. I didn’t think it would hurt so bad! Thankfully it’s not broken just really sore, but I immediately thought “I’m never doing this again.” I felt defeated by the pain :/ but I’ll try again. I feel like I’m too young to just rollover and say I can’t ice skate lol

In 8th grade I went on an Ice skating field trip. It was the first time and I was doing great up until I fell backwards and hit my head. I got back up and sat out for a bit then went back to skating but I was much more hesitant and stayed near the walls. A few years later I tried ice skating again and found that I couldn't bring myself to leave the walls.

Maybe you could've reworded the title differently... I was looking for methods of making my falls a safe one, not how to recover from a fall. Nevertheless, I still learned from this video

What I do is just think about Yuzuru and how he falls so much and gets up so peacefully and continuing like nothing happened- this helps me because he’s my idol and yea.

I'm scared of falling. How can I get rid of the fear and be able to do moves without being tense or afraid of the fall???
