The demographics of the vote, the number of states that were won, the last time republicans won a popular vote, etc. is largely irrelevant to whether it was a "mandate." The bottom line is that more people who voted voted for someone OTHER THAN Trump. I fail to see how that could be considered a "mandate." It's a win for sure, but when people say mandate they're usually implying something larger and more definitive than a slim 1.5% win which does not even garner 50% of total votes cast.
