Endless OS 3.7 Overview | Distro Delves S2:Ep16

In this episode, we take a look at the curious Endless OS 3.7.8 released on March 9th 2020.

I was inspired to make this video after watching ETA Prime's video about Endless OS. I had only read about Endless OS before seeing that video and I'm blown away I haven't seen it earlier.

Most of the people that watch videos on my channel are experienced Linux users so this distro isn't something most of you would use. But you probably know somebody that isn't an experienced user, right? EndlessOS is perfect for them.

Lots of people seem to assume a Windows-esque Linux distro is best for new users but I disagree.

Endless OS isn't trying to be like Windows. Or macOS for that matter. Endless is very much its own thing and has lots of its own unique apps. It's just a really great distro for kids and new users alike.

I'm not sure why I'd want a Linux distro for children, that packaged Facebook and Whatsapp by default. Instead, I think they should rather get a distro booting into a bare bash shell without any desktop environment installed.

I remember my first computer, running an early windows version, but to even get a desktop you had to start it manually in DOS. And my first Linux install, from an OpenSUSE CD packaged in a computer magazine when I was 14. And when I read about how stable Debian was and after weeks and weeks of attempting to download it via my parent's weak Internet connection I finally could burn a Debian install CD and I was sitting there, staring at the Bash prompt, realising there was a lot of work to come to become a desktop.
I wouldn't want children to miss this. I'd rather they discover Linux from top to bottom or even a C64 emulator as their first computer and get into it the way we did, so they find their love for programming and tinkering before facebook and whatsapp. We don;t need to educate them in consuming on a computer, they already know that better than their teacher. We need to teach them how things work and hot to critical when needed.

Could you please suggest which ISO I should download? I want to install this on my son's laptop but I don't know which one, the 2.7 GB basic or the full 16 GB one. I'm leaning towards the 16 GB, but I don't know what I'd be missing out on if I downloaded the 2.7 GB. Thanks

Best use of Gnome 3, I have seen yet. It makes actual sense, if the shell _is_ the desktop, instead of having to click Activities all the time to access it. Is this something that can be configured for other distros using Gnome, like Pop! OS etc.?

Thanks for the review.. I was looking for a replacement to Edubuntu for my kids (9 and 10).. they are at the age where they should start earning computer proper and not just play with their android phones and ipads.

Hi Egee! I'd like to know how to have an operative system on HDD and another one on PC, in this way, when I want to use a specific O.S. I'll use the HDD and when I want to use the other one I'll use the PC in normal way.
