New-vehicle launches these days don’t come much more important than the updated 2024 Hyundai Tucson. The popular mid-size SUV is the Korean giant’s biggest seller in Australia, so there is a lot riding on it.

Externally there’s not a lot of change here, but under the bonnet the turbo-diesel’s gone and been replaced by a petrol-electric hybrid powertrain to take on the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. Inside, there’s a whole new generation of infotainment hardware and software.

But the impact of all these changes will be felt in hip pockets, with prices up more than $3000 – at least. The flagship will now set you back around $65,000 by the time you get it on the road. A $65K Tucson? Really?

Either way, Hyundai is bullishly predicting more sales for the Tucson, driven by the hybrid. So let’s take a good look and drive to find out if it’s worth it.

I pickup my new N Line Diesel on Monday. As a runout it came with a 7K discount. By my calculation it would take about 3000 years to get that back in a Hybrid.

The hybrid system uses a rubber belt driven starter motor generator... interesting 🤔

I'll stick to the diesel Highlander N line I just bought.
No electric vehicle for me, hybrid or not, less to go wrong, I pull up, fill it up, and service it when it needs it, and keep on driving.

When electric cars are flushing the market, some comments said the hybrid is the best😂 OK, here you are offered is a hybrid powertrain. Go for it.
