Omg...I've always aimed at keeping my hands at armpit level. Tried it out a few times on the floor: it makes a HUGE difference. I always thought you needed to be really athletic to get that jump pop up....A real epiphany for me, thanks!!

What?! Whiteboard Wednesday makes a return?! Oh my loins! It's been too long Ru. Loving all the sciencey videos y'all are doing on the channel. Keep them coming. I've been listening to all the podcasts over and over as well. Stay safe and hope y'all can return to the normal schedule soon.

Awesome! Great you're back! The whiteboard wednesdays videos were my biggest help when I started waveski surfing. There were no waveski tutorials. So I absorbed Ru's fantastic explained tutorials and made the 'translation' to waveski. It even inspired me to start the first and only waveski tutorial channel. Not because I know best, but to help out others who had the same struggle finding good tutorials. So actually what I want to say is : thank you so much.
(Ps: I pay a lot of attention to surf etiquette and safety in my videos (writing this for those who worry about them damn waveskis😉) ). Cheers, Paul

Years ago when I was learning to surf I would watch a lot of videos to learn how the pros pop up. After probably hours of videos and me practicing to pop up on the floor, I finally learned this. Had I had this video back then I would have learned it in 2 minutes 😁

Also a quick note, if you're s regular footer I find that it helps to put your right hand a bit lower down your body. It helps when turning your body to get your feet on the board.

This channel is amazing.

Thanks for the all the tips.

22 years surfing and it is just now that I find out why my front leg does not fit under my chest. I always thought it was because I am too tall. I can’t wait to test this in the water! Thanks so much for this video.

Great stuff, looking forward to more! So, what about staggering your hands, ie. one hand closer to the front of the board? There's a slo mo analysis of pro surfers at Kelly's wave you've probly seen, a bunch of those guys/gals do that.

brilliant...I practice my pop ups when the water here in the great lakes are flat and I was starting to use my knee to get up or I was getting slow...this solved the problem.

You have an uncanny resemblance to a young Mick Jagger! Seriously though I have been watching Surf Simply videos for a long time and would love to come there at some point.

Is there one right way to pop up in terms of getting your feet into position? For the few months I have been surfing, I have found that getting my back foot up first then my front (no intermediate step of knees) feels the most intuitive. But I don't know if I should be practicing the jump popup where I bring both feet up at once as shown in the video, either for the sake of not putting too much weight towards the back of the board or for the sake of a faster popup. Thanks so much! I love your videos.

So happy to see new content💖. May I ask - you mentioned pushing back into the 'safety position' while prone and paddling into a wave - do you have a video on prone techniques like that? Thanks!

Great video! When I practice my popups on land (and I practice a lot), I do exactly like you suggest - the 'chicken wing elbow'. However when I actually catch a wave, I seem to usually forget and my hands land further up than I'd like. Any suggestions on really 'memorizing' the hand position in the moment of truth? :)

Can we all have a video with tips for the perfect duck diving when using short board for passing under bigger broken waves ? That’d be awesome ! Cheers
