Brother ScanNCut Tips & Tricks - Scan to Cut Data vs Direct Cut - Hugs from Shelli Paper Pumpkin Kit

In this video, you will learn how to cut out stamped images using the Brother ScanNCut. The Scan and Cut we will be using is the CM350 or Scan and Cut 2. You can follow this tutorial with any model of ScanNCut that you have. The stamp set I'm using is from the Hugs from Shelli May 2019 Paper Pumpkin Kit by Stampin' Up!

In the first part of this tutorial, I demonstrate how to use Scan to Cut Data. You would use this if you just want to scan in a stamped image and then cut it out. You can also use this if you want to resize or duplicate the stamped image. First, you scan in the image and save it. Then, you retrieve it. Then, you cut it out, resize it, etc. If you make any changes to it, you need to remember to save it again.

In the second part of the tutorial, I demonstrate Direct Cut. You would use this if you want to cut out the stamped image with an outline distance. You can even go one step further by cutting out another layer. You do this by increasing the outline distance, changing out the paper, and cutting it again. Here are the settings I recommend.

Stamped Images
Stamped in Memento Black
Very Vanilla Card Stock
Blade Depth = 5
Outline Distance = 0.04"

Outline of Birds
Perennial Essence designer series paper
Blade Depth = 3
Outline Distance = 0.08"

I have learned so much about my Brother Scan n Cut since I discovered your channel. Thank you for the amazing, informative and easy to follow tutorials! And, thanks for the alternative to the Scan n Cut Canvas because I didn’t purchase that option for my machine when I got it a couple of years ago. I have subscribed to your channel and look forward to each video! Thanks again - Pam

Thanks for your videos. They are so helpful. I’ve had my SDX-85 for a year and haven’t mastered it yet. I can finally cut out a stamped image with .04 offset thanks to your instructions. I’d like to scan/cut a whole page of a stamped image and then save a page of the extra offsets (.08) onto my machine for cutting out from time to time. Could I do that part in Scan to Cut? I hope I’m explaining this clearly. I just want a saved page of the large image offsets that I can go back to whenever I need it.

Thank you for another great tutorial!! I have learned so much about how to use my scan n cut from watching you. I notice that you always cut with a .04 offset. Is it possible to cut with no offset? From time to time I would like to be able to cut an image right on the line. Thank you so much!!

What would be the best way to handle this situation. I want to make a Shaker element out of a stamped image of lemonade. Do I do direct cut first and cut out the image at .04 and then feed it back in and cut out the inside of the glass?

Is there going to be more refills available.

I just got my scan n cut dx 125 for my birthday on the 25th of May. I so so so love it so far. I actually have 2 questions -- one has nothing to do with the other. My mat has all these pieces stuck to it and I can't seem to get them off. How do I get them off? Now for the real question. I created an image that I wanted to have a die made for -- cost would have been $170 for the 1 die. I got it saved inside the dx and had 8-1/2 x 11 paper on landscape. I want to cut out as many as I can but I couldn't find how to add the border around them. I can when I scan, but not when I pull from one inside the machine. Any ideas where that info is?

Actually, I think the birds on the paper and stamp set are swallow-tailed kites.
