Can-Am Commander 800R-XT or 1000: Oil Change: 2.1 Quarts Full Synthetic 5w-40, Oil Filter

This video takes you through an oil change on a CanAm Commander. The Commander oil change is a process that can be completed by all the people out there who take pride in doing their own maintenance. The Can-Am Commander 800R and 800XT takes 2.1 quarts of oil per oil change. We would HIGHLY suggest using a fully synthetic 5w-40 weight oil as the owners manual also calls for this velocity. The oil change will cost less than $40 and will ensure the life of your Commander. The Commander transmission and transfer case use a separate oil compartment, if your wondering how a high performance twine cylinder engine only uses 2.1 quarts of oil. Few tools are required to complete the oil change, but it will take you some time.

Great Job! Very Informative! and the thing that I like most, Your Camera was not moving all over the place making me Sick. I get real bad motion sickness and 1/2 the videos on You tube the Camera is moving all over the place. Your camera skills are awesome!!!! keep up the great work!

I over filled mine. Easy to do, as I've been around off road machines my whole life. While checking oil levels the manuals always say... "Check oil level after machine is warmed up, do not screw in dipstick" So Can Am makes it the opposite of all those ingrained habits on my Commander and my Outlander ATV by saying... "To check oil level make sure machine is COLD, and screw in the dipstick COMPLETELY" Now I have to go and check the oil level on the Outlander to see if that's overfilled too, and have to remember every time I check oil on Can Am's. 'The opposite of all other machines' I'd better make a note somehow near the dipstick to remind me.

Will this oil change process work on a maverick 1000r turbo?

Why add Lucas when you are using great oil? Lucas has great marketing skills but in lab results it is wasted money.... unless you want to add it to "Bob's swamp water" oil.

In your notes,   I believe you mean "viscosity" not velocity. Great vid, thanx.

you made it look easy. I found Castro edge 5w40 on sale at napa for $5.29/qt. Rotella or mobil diesel would be my 2nd choice
