Anyone else ever timed one of these episodes to see how much of it is an ad?
You would be amazed.

Long wood dowels work good for holding the lifters up while changing the cam.

16:35 You guys have been the only series that continuously shows oil pump shimming. 👍

These guys always work in a spotless shop, with an engine on a stand. I wish they would demonstrate this kind of swap in a vehicle in a cramped garage as most people would be doing it.

I thought they meant “actually turning the motor over” as in upside down, which would keep those lifters in their bores and out of the way.

I just did a cam swap on an LS but didn't have to remove oil pump or oil pan. But on an LS with a double roller timing set I did have to remove the oil pump to cam swap.

I'm about 2 weeks away from my dyno day and I cant wait!!! Gotta lq9, tsp torquer V4 cam, mahle power pak forged pistons, ported and polished 799 heads, .650 lift dual springs, trunion kit, dorman ls3 intake. I'm sure I'm forgetting something. It's going in a 350Z

There was no need to pull the oil pump, I’ve done several of these swaps, just unbolt the cam gear, let it drop then remove the chain, rebolt the cam gear, spin the cam the quickly remove and install new cam

What I find most impressive with these engines is they make all that power with total timing only in the 20's range! Old style small block Chevys always need 34-36 degrees total timing.

Heck yeah 🤘 I am building an LQ9 right now

The Lq9 is probably the most gnarliest, bad ass powerplant. I had one in my sierra and it took tons of abuse.

That thing would be awesome in my 77 Suburban... My 400sbc is getting a lil tired 😫

Try several (16) telescoping pocket magnets to hold the lifters in place. I'm sure Pat has enough in his pocket...

Graphite head gaskets....what other parts did they cheap out on?!

Great test this is what a lot of LS guys want to see and build fir themselves... I personally would like to see a custom spec cam just to compare ... thanks guys

I'll have to use this episode for future ideas. I have an '05 LQ4 sitting in storage waiting for me to go through it and drop into a '68 C10 longbed.

Old friend of mine builds these right out of the junkyard, new cam, intake and carb that makes 540hp on 89 octane. Not bad for under $2000

Well I am currently building an LQ9 so this video was nice to watch.

I needed that engine in my '93 Silverado. I'd've been happy with it Stock.
