SUMMARIES:
- For true sample aficionados, there are ideal times to head to Costco if you're looking to maximize your sample potential. According to a Reddit AMA with a Costco employee, Mondays and Tuesdays are the prime times to score the most free food because they tend to be less busy.
- You might be able to score free food at Costco without a membership. There are plenty of reasons to visit the grocery chain without one, like shopping via gift card, using the pharmacy, chowing down at the food court, or even purchasing alcohol.
- Multiple employees on Reddit have confirmed that the samples are indeed, unlimited (within reason, which we’ll get to). One replied that "You can have more than one sample. Really. You don't need to ask.
- A student who wrote an article in the University of Virginia's Cavalier Daily states that Costco is a "students best friend" and recommends taking advantage of your nearby Costco's free samples to put together a three-course meal.
- Almost everyone has a horror story about finding something untoward in their food... it's jarring, takes away from the experience, and can leave a bad taste in your mouth when it comes to the restaurant or company.
- Although grocery shopping can be a dull adult responsibility, samples make it all worth it! And at Costco, samples are effectively restricted to adults. According to Costco's rules, samples aren't supposed to be given out to kids under 13 without their parents.
- Costco samples are a win-win... the company doesn't mind giving out free food because of the enormous payoffs that come with offering it, including sales boosts of as much as 2,000 percent.
- If you've ever asked the person behind the sample counter to point you in the direction of a particular product and get a blank stare, there's an explanation... the people handing out samples aren't employed by the same company as the ones ringing up your groceries.
- If you look forward to sharing a smile and a few words with your Costco sample guy on your shopping trip, they might recognize you too. A Costco sample employee on Reddit wrote that he recognizes some of his favorite regulars! One Costco regular shared a photo of their father with a Costco sample employee he befriended.
- Numerous Costco employees online have written that they don't mind customers stopping by a few times for extra samples as long as they allow them to do their jobs. "We are obligated to try to sell our samples to you, not just give them out for free," one employee wrote.

I work for Costco, I have one thing to say, you’re not a customer we call you; “Members” because you pay to be there so you’re more than a customer

When I worked for Sam's club we didn't get paid enough so most of us ate samples for lunch.

As a former manager of CDS, Club Demonstration Services, the ONLY company Costco contracts out in North America and 8 other countries, this is a very accurate well done video surprisingly.👍🏻. I left my position just this year, March 14, 2020 was my last day. 6 yrs I was the manager . I got burned out. There is a ton of work that goes on behind the scenes. I managed 30 to 40 staff with up to 15 demos a day. Up to 20 during Christmas, 7 days a week, 2 six hour shifts overlapping a day😳. It was extremely stress inducing, believe me. My manager piling more responsibilities just as you start doing previous added responsibilities well.... it was never ending. Do more with less! It was coming down the line from her manager, and so forth up the chain. It was brutal. They wanted to do all the demos, not just the food ones. We sold coats, shoes, bbq’s and whatever else the company could get their hands on. We generated over $2.5 million in sales per year for the warehouse I worked in. I was paid a paltry $42, 500 a year, with benefits, paid vacay and yearly bonuses. Not near enough for the work I was expected to do. Should have been at least $55-60 thousand 😒 I’m not bitter though seriously. But I just had to get out. Now I’m just chilling 😎, stress free enjoying my first summer off in 6 years 😂. Again good video though. Pretty accurate. So be nice to the demonstrators. They take a lot of verbal abuse and sometimes inappropriate touching by creeps.😒who will brush really close behind them and yes, actually grope the women. Gross. We do also know where most things are, more than Costco staff usually😂. I’ve actually had a member swipe a full tray of samples onto the floor because she was reminded to not stick her hand in the bowl of crackers that we had sample product in. We throw out the whole bowl. I don’t know where your hands been 🤮. What do you think the muffin liners of samples on the red tray are for? Not just for looks 😂. Thanks for reading this long ass comment if you made it this far. Peace out. Enjoy the samples after COVID.

When I was young at Costco I saw a package of already opened cookies so I just continued eating them. Some may call it stealing but I just call it doing a good deed since it would be thrown out anyways

I work for CDS, who gives that free samples. And trust me its really frustrating, bcz people literally treat us like vending machine or robot.

As a sample person, the only things I ask is that members say thanks when getting their free food, show some patience cause some foods take longer to prepare and listen to our spiel even if NOT interested in buying. We are REQUIRED to talk about the product that we are selling and it is tough to do that when a person just grabs and goes and you are talking to the back of his or her head. The vendors also want feedback on the products, both positive and negative.

i like to go when they are about to close, that when the samplers are dishing out an entire serving instead of pieces of their sample, lmao

We don’t move things at costco to make a treasure hunt experience, we moving things for very specific reason like a company paid to have their product on the end cap of a sail.

If “students” are using Costco free samples to get meals and doing this daily or almost daily, they have way too much time on their hands. I’ve shopped their often and no way can you make a meal almost every day from their samples.

I ALWAYS say thank you when I get samples. It's just polite. 🙂 And one Costco sample worker was surprised I said thank you. She said most people don't do that anymore. I was sad to hear that, but happy to see her smile from just a simple "Thank You."

One time Costco was almost completely empty but for some reason the was a guy with pasta samples so my sister and I had an entire meal and then we went to the next stand to get some cookies. It was a good day.
