In a thrilling story inspired by actual events from the Battle of the Atlantic, Tom Hanks stars as a first-time captain who leads a convoy of allied ships carrying thousands of soldiers across the treacherous waters of the “Black Pit” to the front lines of WW2. With no air cover protection for 5 days, the captain and his convoy must battle the surrounding enemy Nazi U-boats in order to give the allies a chance to win the war. The film is directed by Aaron Schneider from a screenplay by Hanks.

The rest of the wolf pack is like
"Aw ffs who let Fritz on the radio again"

3:05 the music, the camera pulling up to let us see the entirety of the fight and the desperate nature of the night, combined with the panicking radio static and ominous glow of distress flares. Then the mood shift to the beauty of the aurora overhead. Fave scene of the movie.

Aaron Schneider is an absolute genius; the last 50 seconds are a masterpiece, it genuinely shows the confusion and chaos war can cause even not on the frontlines

lol...a U-Boat officers taunting destroyers? Destroyers!! It's was game of cat and mouse out there. And the U-Boats were NOT the cats.

It was kinda disappointing we didn’t get to see the big scrum, the pull away shot just gave me absolute chills. It was perfect. Best part of the movie.

This shot is an amazing depiction that the sea battles were often much more terrifying and confusing than the land battles. Beautiful.

For some reason this scene gives me so much emotion. The music starts blaring up and I can feel the panic start to rise as we get the sky view. Very good use of music and tension.

Such a chilling scene, just imagine being one of those sailors on the bridge and hearing the voice of the unseen enemy like that, howling for your death.

The sound that plays when ever a U-boat surfaces is so eerie. Really helps you understand how terrifying it was for the covey and escort captains.

3:40 This scene hit different for me because it showed me how war can be sad for everyone, even Mother Nature.

They should've limited the Fritz howling on the radio to this one scene ; It was somewhat chilling here, it got annoying the second time he did that, and the third one was just ridiculous.

Simply the best scene for me. It shows that their fighting a tactfull and skilled enemies, unlike on other ww2 movies where they portrait germans as to put it simply, "dumb".

But mainly, i like this scene because of the sounds of the dual bofors :)

The last bit of the Scene where the camera looks at the night sky reminds me of this passage from The Lord of The Rings:

There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.

great film, not something SUPER grand but part of a prolonged vicious fight that may not have killed AS many as on land in the big battles but was super super crucial and man lots of misery. Like that guy who got friendly-fired bullet to his mouth? Imagine the pain for days on the ocean like that. The ending scene (no spoilers) did show also how important these convoys were. And i (as one from Iceland) remind folks of these, Iceland was an important midway stop esp for the USSR convoys who had great many misfortunes. We didn't have any super important land battles happen here but like the HMS Hood battle / sinking and the big Battle of the Atlantic ocean battles and commercial ships playing into that role was immense for the Allied war effort overall. Most of the folks we lost in the war were fishermen and transport ship crew from air strafes and Uboats and the sort. Logistics is what really won the war and the humble truck driver or even a cook on a transport shouldn't feel like they did nothing just 'cause they weren't in the big name battles. Their efforts contributed to those victories.
