Buzzing to welcome our international education whānau from across Asia, to a virtual forum devoted to building on New Zealand’s international education linkages with waiata – alongside @RiaHallNz, Ibanez Maeva and Ko Tāu Rourou, a government interagency kapa haka rōpu.
Waiata is one way we demonstrate New Zealand’s cultural value of Manākitanga.
From personal experience I know that international education is a powerful thing. It sparks innovation, challenges our thinking, and helps us all find common ground. It can be regenerative personally and also collectively. Much aroha, Education New Zealand.

As a Kiwi living in the Highlands of Scotland, whenever I need a pick me up to remind me of my roots and just how special our people are, I listen to Maori music and song, do a Haka and wear my AB Jersey with pride. And I'm white. Ain't no other Country in the World like NZ. Stan is the epitomy of everything every decent Kiwi represents and stands for. He is truly an amazing gift from God ❤

My soul yearns to get back to our Aotearoa. I’ve been living in China with my wife and boys for almost 3 years, and because of COVID it’s almost impossible to return to my whanau right now. Hearing Stan’s music helps me bridge the gap and stay connected, and I look forward to the day where once more I can recharge and connect to my roots. I love and miss you dearly my home, my people, my whenua. Kia aroha tatou katoa, Kia arohaina. ⚜️

Amazing experience! It was a challenge to sing behind @Stan Walker and @RiaHallNZ and the gorgeous Ibanez without constantly getting chills because of their beautiful voices.

I love how the Māori have preserved their culture. I am South Sea and Aboriginal. One culture I lost and the other has been preserved a bit but I still feel a disconnect from it as the South Sea Islanders that were mixed do not recognise their Indigenous heritage. I am one of the few who do recognise it. I will learn what I can while I can. Culture is beautiful. 😊😊

Stan is one of the most underrated singers in the US. His voice is just spot on, his tone & his high notes are pitch perfect!! Liquid Gold! His song with his mom makes me cry every time I watch it. To see the bond he has with her is unbelievable. These songs on here, I don't need to know what they mean. They are still music to my soul!! His whole family is talented but I hear Stan & get emotional. I love you Stan from the US!!💗💗

Respect to the culture and people. I find myself coming back every time to this song as a reminder of my ancestors and to gather that mana from them, when I listen to Stans voice. Faafetai

I still don’t know why Stan, but you bring this Aussie grandpa to tears so often! I had just regained dry eyes at the end of the first song when the first few bars of the second song brought me undone all over again. Your joy, commitment and pride in who you are deserves an enormous hug from us all!

I always cry @ the end of the Aotearoha song. And thank you to the Maori people for being so generous to allow the caucasians into your choir to sing along. I totally get it, I want to be included in all that lyrical beauty and melodic passion too. As for Ibanez, it is just so great that she keeps on showing up to help deliver this song. Her part @the end is pure sweetness. Thank you Stan, for sharing the gift of your powerful, amazing voice with us!
