3. The Virgin Suicides (Sofia Coppola)
4. Marie Antoinette (Sofia Coppola)
5. Thirteen (Catherine Hardwicke)

My 5 favourite movies directed by women are:

1. The Riot Club (2014) dir. Lone Scherfig
2. The Diary of a Teenage Girl (2015) dir. Marielle Heller
3. Fish Tank (2009) dir. Andrea Arnold
4. The Farewell (2019) dir. Lulu Wang
5. The Edge of Seventeen (2016) dir. Kelly Fremon Craig

In terms of female directors though I also love Ava DuVernay, Sofia Coppola, Autumn De Wilde, Emma Seligman, Chloé Zhao, Rose Glass, Lynne Ramsay - and I am just so thankful that list is getting bigger and bigger!

Have you ever seen Zola (directed by Janicza Bravo)? I thought it was so, so good and funny, but really underrated.
Also, I love Eve's Bayou! (Kasi Lemmons' directorial debut).
Love and Basketball (by Gina Maria Prince-Bythewood) is a classic, and the only sports movie I love.
Fish Tank (directed by Andrea Arnold) is excellent and just tore my heart out.

I really like Big 1988, directed by Penny Marshall and starring Tom Hanks and Elizabeth Perkins.

I feel like as someone who likes historical or period stories, you might like “Emily” (2022). Fictionalized movie of Emily Brontë and her family, directed by Frances O’Connor.

Wait...Timothee Chalamet is NOT a good actor?! People say that?! HOW!? His performances in Call Me By Your Name and Beautiful Boy are such moving performances. Espeically from someone who was so young when he played those roles! Now is he very much known and is doing such great work in small and blockbuster movies. I love him in DUNE as well.

oooof a top 5 directed by women list is difficult but in this moment I'm going to say: _Dogfight_ (1991) [Nancy Savoca], _The Love Witch_ (2016) [Anna Biller], _Peppermint Soda_ (1977) [Diane Kurys], _Bound_ (1996) [Lana Wachowski & Lilly Wachowski], and _A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night_ (2014) [Ana Lily Amirpour]. _Portrait of a Lady On Fire_ is actually in my top 5 and maybe even _Bottoms, Little Women_ (1994) would be high in the overall list- but I wanted to list movies you didn't mention or I don't think you've seen. And then I just have to name these directors overall: Sofia Coppola, Jane Campion, Catherine Breillat, and Joan Micklin Silver. It's hard listing just one of their films and they have many features to choose from that I've seen (unlike Anna Biller mentioned above who has only one feature film). Though, I would specifically recommend Jane Campion's _Bright Star_ (2009) to you. I have a feeling I might have already recommended it but there it is again just in case. 🩷💟🩷

Like so many followers, I look forward to your YouTube videos, always pleasurable, always informative. 🥂

That said, you sounded so dismissive, “whenever we are talking about The Parent Trap we are never talking about the other movie”??? 🫤

It’s really all about which version one sees first. Once you see the original released in 1961, which played every year thereafter, on TV, on video, DVDs, throughout the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s, and still does, the remake just doesn’t compare. Not in a literal sense but in an emotional one. 💗

The same holds true I suppose if you saw the remake first, released in 1998, you may prefer the one with Lohan over the original.

That “other” movie that you refer to is one of Disney’s biggest successes and starred British actress Hayley Mills.

There’s little doubt, if we polled public opinion in The States, the original movie would win hands down in popularity.

You’re missing the entire demographic over 30. 📈📊☺️
