We love the Japanese guitar manufacturing here at Ben Dewhirst Music INC. They are an AMAZING alternative for someone looking for the Gibson or Fender thing without the price tag (or the name on the headstock)!

Let me know if you guys have any cool Tokai guitars in the comments, would love to hear from ya!

I got a p90 tokai love rock....i sold all my epiphones and replaced them with old vintage aria, greco, burnys and orville guitars.... just as good of not better than Gibson and like you said way more affordable

I would like to hear any opinions about the stock pickups on the made in Japan Love Rock LS142's. I'm underwhelmed. That said, they seem to be the only negative part of the instrument so far. The neck is mounted unevenly or was knocked and is quite loose. I know nothing about adjusting pickups.

I recently purchased an es168, I really love the sound and plays great. My only complaint is the nut is about 41.5 mm, a bit narrow. I think they must have been going for a late 60s Gibson which had even narrower nut. I also have an LS128f which has a normal width nut and while a bit heavy is better than any Gibson I have had.

I just got my Love Rock Tokai Heritage Cherry Burst, Quilt top LP LS142Q from Japan a week ago. It plays as well as my 78' custom, real Gibson burst LP. (my first guitar). The pickups were a little disappointing and I can't make sense of the way the neck pickup is mounted, it looks uneven. These are nothing like PAF's, they are really high output and sound muddy, scooped and kind of one-dimensional, they're literally too much for my plexi, just can't seem to dial in a good tone and keep the amp volume where I like it without the signal getting fizzy and muddy. On the positive side, this is an easy thing to change. The neck and body being in line with an actual vintage LP is impressive. It's a little more unbalanced/bottom heavy than my original flame but very nice action, minimal buzzing. I can't wait to hear what it sounds like with a set of decent pickups in it. Now to begin this search among a sea of choices. Should take me a while, I'm pretty OCD about research and bang for buck. I think I'm just getting used to it. Considering the bar against what it's being measured (my vintage Gibson) it's not an easy 'I love this thing' like my Tele type was when I first got it. The tele had no competition as I have never owned one. I sometimes feel like I should have just got a Gibson LP special tribute (instead of the Tokai), but that detailing on the Tokai/LP standard neck with the wide inlays, etc. is something I just love.

Really love the Es 100. Looks and sounds incredible. I am searching for one.
Does your one have the stock pickups, the Paf-vintage MK2?
Sounds really nice and no need for pickup swaps.
Thanks for sharing this!

for a 335, would you go for an Eastman or Tokai?

I wish they would do an es355 replica. And as long as we are dreaming, maybe a Byrdland as well.

All MIJ Tokais are very consistenly made, and you don't really run the risk of a bad one like you do with Gibsons. But their 335s are on another level. You need to play a lot of Gibson 335s to find one as good as the _average_ Tokai 335.

Tokai guitars build quality is much better than modern Gibsons, especially Les Paul replicas (Love Rock).
I hope Tokai would do weight-relieved Love Rocks like modern Gibson Les Pauls feature.
