IMO I would imagine that a woman with masculine characteristics or man with woman characteristics are all in some ongoing process of becoming transgender.

Sex I believe is more of the biological aspects one is born with like penis or vulva while gender role is the *social sexual roles* they see themselves being treated as. Basically, gender role is how people want everyone to treat them despite sex role conformity (e.g. women allowed to play men sports, men using beauty cosmetics without being shamed, cross-dressing). It is a social sexual identity preference meant to break the status quo set by geriatric conservatives and was never meant to be scientifically backed up (which isn’t a bad thing). The definition of gender on its own, when applied in society to identify a random person, is obsolete and confusing without any context.

In many parts of the world, gender role is seen as a social construct set in stone where the men must do all the hard work and women perform the mundane lighter tasks. In the Renaissance women weren’t allowed to be actors or hold high positions. In developed nations, women fought to have equal opportunity as men in the workforce since the 60’s. Hardly anyone back then would’ve thought of seeing CEO women till now.

Gender roles started to become confusing when cosmetic surgical procedures in the late 70’s and early 80’s allowed celebrities to change their sex successfully. This all started with Hollywood celebrities changing their gender. Now in the 21st century there are more transgenders and with that, more of them want to be treated equally based on their gender despite controversies. This makes things confusing and although I support LGBTQ rights 100% transgender roles made things controversial and confusing than it needs to be.

Also people identifying as broccoli, alien or whatever are simply trolling for attention that’s all.
