ROCKY'S ITALY: Tuscany - Pietrasanta

Located in northwestern Tuscany at the foothills of the Apuan Alps, Pietrasanta is the beating heart of the contemporary art scene in Tuscany. Celebrated artists such as Henry Moore, Igor Mitoraj, Damien Hirst, and Fernando Botero have all called Pietrasanta home. The medieval cathedral of Pietrasanta is one of the most beautiful in Tuscany, and the nearby unfinished belltower hides an extraordinary internal spiral staircase which local tradition attributes to Michelangelo, who spent considerable time in Pietrasanta when quarrying marble in nearby Carrara.
