The keyboard and trackpad use different communication protocol on M2!

Haha look at that guy at the beginning. He's so confused! He's like "wait I thought I was using the new M2 MBP!" What a riot.

The keyboard and trackpad are using an updated communication protocol between the soc and the input, making it not software lockout.

Parts are cross compatible. Replaces entire PC equivalent of Desktop. SoC which includes CPU, GPU, RAM and numerous other controllers plus SSD and the logic board. Basically like building a new PC with same Mouse Keyboard, Monitor and Power Supply.

How About disconnecting the Battery FIRST before disconnecting other connectors!!!!

They did not disable the trackpad a keyboard, Hector said clearly the interface to talk to these parts has change. This is not a software lock this is a change of the protocol use to talk to the hardware as they have removed some of the crossing logic chips from the trackpad and put that logic inside the SOC so now the communication from the trackpad to the SOC is in much more raw data format instead of being a process finger at x, y location. This move is in fact good for repariablty as it makes it much simpler to build a replacement trackpad if apple do all the hard pressing in the SOC it means that trackpad is a simpler part.

Very nice video. I loved the SSD explanation at the very end. I look forward to more tear-down videos, hopefully, when Apple decides to account for items you mentioned and comes up with a better chip, say, "M2 Pro chip". Side note: I noticed that the subtitle for the very last sentence is VERY different from what you actually said in the video!!! : 5:07

They probably still use these chassis that have been the same since 2015 because they still have quite a lot of stock left. Kinda sad, because the new chassis are a lot better.

You might be unto something, they can easily jump on the reparability bandwagon with this laptop. Of course, they are going to want to make a feature of it so it might be on their roadmap.

I would really like to know if the screens in the 2019/2020 MBP (Intel)`s screen is compatible with the M1 or M2 Models... It seems to be swappable here.

Dang! I was getting excited to inter-changeable parts and a working laptop!

Cause of the unique machine serial Number and many Little things changed with M2, you cannot have neither in future an upgrade option.
Saying this as a certified Apple technician. (As for me, this Is All ridicolous.. missing the old non soldered CPUs)

I own an Apple M1 MacBook Pro, 16", and I would absolutely love it if I can upgrade just the logic board to an M2 and retain my RAM and perhaps have the option to add an SSD.

Wow that’s sad that you can’t upgrade. I couldn’t find the answer to this anywhere

If everything is the same, why not make the cpu replaceable in the thinnest socket possible?
