Those who won deserved it, a person should NOT win based on sexual orientation or ethnicity.
It should and always will be about performance, directing and writing.

the best part of the Emmys was when it ended.

I’m a person of color and I want Emmy wins to be about performances and talent. You can’t be upset because a person of color or a woman or someone in the LGBTQ community doesn’t win every category. You all sound crazy. Your mindset should not be “oh I expected MJ to win because she’d become the first trans woman ever to receive this honor.” AT LEAST say that you expected MJ to win because simply as an actress, her performance was breathtaking.

Do these commentators realize that giving someone an award solely based on skin color, gender, or representation is the DEFINITION of prejudice.

I’m a writer, and if I ever get the chance of being nominated by anything I hope it’s on the merit of the work I produced and not because of my skin color

Their disappointment brings me joy. The voters themselves are diverse and they have spoken.

Serious question: If the criteria for a successful night at the Emmy's is how tacitly we award wins to specific groups in order to congratulate, in effect, ourselves for "doing the right thing" then at what point do we just stop leading the names of categories with "Best... " altogether?

Because if we no longer accept that any of this process is pure, and that zero elements of a meritocracy exist, then what have all of these awards shows become except Minority Bingo? I mean, Michaela Coel won for a brilliant limited series that powerfully addresses one of the most difficult to tackle subjects in existence and here we are belittling her achievement like vultures simply because her being a "binary" black woman is no longer enough. Would it have been better if she grew a mustache before taking the stage?

And before anyone gets insulted as though I'm somehow attempting to take aim at diversity or inclusiveness, take a moment to recognize yourselves that in all the conversation above (in the video) or below (in the comments) I have yet to read a single comment from anyone acknowledging the lack of representation for disabled folks. Not one mention of our erasure from these conversations, and especially in particular these social events, which while unsurprising is no less ironic considering. Here we are trying to pat ourselves on the back for attempting to place these awards in the hands of the least represented nominees and yet the most maligned and underserved (relatively speaking) community in all the world doesn't get so much as a mention.

For the record, as someone living with a very rare genetic neuromuscular disease, I would ask for it no other way. I would very much prefer we still keep systemic racism in our sights at all times instead, being that it is truly the greatest scourge left in American society. All of what I'm saying here is not to delegitimize anyone's social justice efforts, but when we're kicking down doors that could otherwise be opened with a knock first then who are we really serving? Equality should be about the chance to earn an equal opportunity to be considered, not first priority to an ensured victory. Not only does that undermine the credibility of such awards going forward, but even worse -- it damages the arts.

And who would want to win that way anyway? Who would accept a victory so manicured that any project put forward by someone with a d*ck in a dress has first dibs on the honor? In what world does that feel like progress? To me, it just feels like something corrupt. Some grossly performative act of kindness that is so much more about the awarder than the awarded that even the award itself feels shameful to receive. I know this is a novel and a half to read, but my cup runneth over this time. All that said... Congrats to Michaela Coel and to all who won their awards honorably! TV is as good as it's ever been so winning an award like best writer or director is really no small feat.

Why not just come up with a new award show called The Identity Awards? Then awards can be given out to actors in certain identity groups, not because they were the best actors, but “because the time has come” for their group. 🙄

What the heck? You WIN if you are the best! Not because you are gay or a person of color.

I thought they just gave awards out to the best in a category? 🤔

Oh this is completely ridiculous.
Not one of the actors of color was actually snubbed as, for one of the first Emmys ever, every winner deserved their win. We've had Billy Porter win, we've had Viola Davis win, we've had Regina King win, all of those times they won for bringing the best work, just like this year Olivia, Tobias, Kate absolutely deserved their wins.
Oh and please, just thinking that someone deserves to win because they died is also ridiculous. I'm sorry for Chadwick and Michael, but Anthony and Tobias were truly the best

While everyone else was watching an award show, these two yentas were sitting there with a clipboard and a race checklist...

I don't know what's more insulting; being nominated due to your skin color or winning any nominations because of your skin color.

Worst part of the Emmys was when Bo Burnham got beat out by Hamilton for pre-recorded whatever ... From a play that came out in 2015 and got re-recorded for 2020/2021 for Disney+ .... Inside was a masterpiece and Hamilton won for a play that was exactly the same besides the filming .... Gross man... Gross - I only watched that one category .. I couldn't care less about all the others this year. I would have been happy if ANYTHING else would have won over 2015's Hamilton ... That's just irritating.
Yes, I do know Inside won 3 Emmys.

This is one of the very few vids I have personally ever seen that has more dislikes then likes and bar far. And it deserves just that . I hope the commentators see that the idiotic words they said is felt by all
