Star Citizen is an upcoming space trading and combat simulator video game for Microsoft Windows and Linux.
Star Citizen will consist of two main components: first-person space combat, first-person shooter elements and trading in a massively multiplayer persistent universe and customizable private servers,
and a branching single-player and drop-in co-operative multiplayer campaign (titled Squadron 42).

After Stanton is finished they should make Magnus (3 Planets, 1 City), Pyro (6 Planets, 1 Space Station), Nyx (4 Planets from which 1 is Delamar (more a Dwarf Planet), 2 Landing Zones from which 1 is Levski) and then one Big system like Ellis (14 Planets, ~3 City's/Landing Zones, 2 Space Stations). Then we have 5 very different Solar Systems an if the Tec is ready they could launch the game and put in more and more systems as they become ready. I Personally don't need 100 Solar Systems to have fun if every thing else works probably.

Most content will be created procedurally then touched up by planet teams. This can actually be done very quickly once the base assets and randomisation software has been sorted as CIG is doing now. Also at least a few systems are being made out of our sight in the SQ42 development and these may become available in Star Citizen once SQ42 releases. This is open development, but plenty is still hidden away from us backers so that the game is not ruined by spoilers or ruin opportunities for exploration.

Will be interesting to see how they tackle Terra, can't wait to see that.

Things will likely speed up from here. You're correct about the pipeline refinements. Nobody gets the pipeline perfect on the first try. Going forward, the assets that have already been created can be shared throughout and it'll likely speed up their production. So honestly I'm really not worried, as long as there's a decent amount of content to play on release. I've already sunk a ton of time on 3.3.6 so I can't wait to see what's next.

Oh my, lovely video as always! Im hoping to see more variety in buildings on planets. Stuff like mountain based bunkers, citadels... ancient ruins of alien races hidden on moons/planets. Such places being hidden from ships which will make you have to take ground vehicles in order to find.

Can't wait for the first jump we see/do "praise Croshaw"!

I'd like to suggest that they have already created a significant number of systems and have only to populate them effectively with mission data, interactable metadata and other basic implements.

My reasoning for this is that Star Citizen is not the only game in the universe currently under development that requires interaction with many of these same systems.

Squadron 42 will be providing access to many of the same Star Systems as SC, so given current dev and showcases on S42, we can be pretty confident that most of the geography, stations, and likely cities/landing zones are fleshed out to some extent.... probably only requiring touch-ups and implements.

I think also that the inclusions of the systems we see in the PU are those which are not really being utilized in the Squadron 42 game, or are merely tangential to the story/not explorable. This to me would make sense, as S42 would require in house testing to a significant degree, thus correcting many issues of the wider PU prior to it's release into Beta (post server-sharding implement, and some other pillars mentioned in SC con this year). The Stanton and ArcCorp systems are likely there for players to engage and test for the Devs so as to allow rapid growth and implement training for the teams when the time comes to roll over the new systems from the S42 system into the PU.

Just my take. Great Video btw.

Yeah, even at a blistering pace of one system per month, it will still take over eight years to crunch out all the systems (100 of them). Not awful, considering how big and detailed the 'Verse is, but maybe a bit unrealistic for game development. In reality, they'd need to get developing an entire system down to two weeks, and I would think quality would suffer at that rate, prefabs or no. Guess we'll find out! As for which system? Goss and pretty much any system in the Turtleverse.

I really want to see Jalan, the former Tevarin homeworld in Elysium, it sounds like a super cool place

I'm most looking forward to underwater bioms.

The thing I’m confused about is how long exactly not just planets but the cities on them will take. Like we got Lorville but you can’t explore anywhere in the city, it’s strictly just a small area inside the city. I’d love to just be able to walk down the streets

MAC, don't get me wrong here man, I am beyond excited for more places/planets, star systems BUT...
If Chris Roberts went live right now and said "Sorry Backers but we are refactoring entire roadmap to focus on NPC, AI, NPC roaming/random spawns and Missions functionality, variety" I'd be the happiest little SC Backer ever haha.

Now obviously we know they can do what I spouted off above and STILL make new areas so I'll assume this is the direction we are going.
My rant is more an exclamation highlighting what I feel we desperately need in the PU.

I'm glad to hear they are setting up teams for location content creating. I'd love to see all planets have hundreds of POIs that you can scan down and explore, would really add another level to the experience especially if some of those areas had good or bad NPC spawns at them.

I want to see Terra. I just hope it is as nice as in the concept art with the uniquely shaped mountains and upscale cityscape.

I was playing free to play memories of Mars this weekend it scary how much better it is than star citizen, yet it’s still not great. Give it ago, the building system and how you level so to speak is actually quite realistic which could be applied to star citizen.

The original "leaked" info to the German games magazines was 10 systems by Beta. I'd be happy to see a second system and a working jump-point by 2020. But they are running so slow they probably can't hit that date. Only hope is the Foundry 42 boys being freed up to help.

where is this footage from from the begining of the video?

They evaded to answer this question and we should be concerned about that.. Sure, they will be faster with the second system. On what order of magnitude do they expect to be faster? Twice as fast? 10 times, 100 times? What do you think is possible? Is 100 times redicilous? Do they even have an estimate themselves? Do they have a plan? How much faster are they now in ship building? Twice?
The roadmap for the next year doesnt say anything on anpther system let alone 10. No, we will not have 100 systems at "release". They havent said that in a long time. CR even said that once and kinda rowed back later. I think we should adjust our expectations until they demonstrate that they can do it much faster. Everything else is wishful thinking.

I don't say it can't be done, I say: they didn't say it can be done!!! Anybody that ever sat in a project meeting, has heard such statements. And after a while you know what they mean. Wiggling not to tell a lie but not to tell the truth either.

But it's a damn good looking game :-) And I hope I am wrong :-)

How fast can they populate a system? Make the missions work? Flora and Funa?
