Show Description:

Exercise your "humor-muscle" with Mark Lundholm in this hilarious stand-up performance filmed live for a homeless benefit in Marin, CA.

Mark breaks the ice with his classic jokes about the differences between "Normies", the rest of us, and the funny lexicon surrounding the issues of the addicted.

Then Mark sets the tone as he unleashes unapologetic observations on topics ranging from family, marriage, kids, midlife, to societal examinations of addiction, recovery, and the dysfunctional way we cope regardless of age, gender, or sexual orientation.

Mark is on fire as he connects with the audience and delivers his hardcore views about homelessness, addiction, the road to recovery, and how commitment & communication are key tools to keeping sober.

This 60 minute show is packed with brand new jokes, stories, and truths that will not only make you laugh, but will make you think.

Thank you Mark. A very dear friend and colleague of mine (I’m an addiction counselor) called Jim Cody took me to see you in Petaluma in the early oughts, and ended up showing your videos in our Tx program for years afterward. And clients went cray for it- healing power of humor, writ large. I’ve been hipping clients to your work ever since.

Mark talking about being severely beaten at 4 brought tears to my eyes. I'm 51, a big burly guy yet my interior 5 year old is still screaming and jerking in pain as my mother switched my back, arms and legs into a cross hatch of broken, purple skin. Despite being very well taken care of and deferred to by my dad, she was at heart a very unhappy, unhealthy, brutal person who, I can see all these years later, goaded her children, mostly me because I was the oldest, into infractions of the rules so she could be justified in beating them until she felt better. She didn't hit a prescribed number of times, she hit in a furious frenzy until exhausted. For the first 2/3rds of my life I thought her beatings as punishment were more or less normal. A little over the top but in rural farm country in the '70's, more or less not that big a deal. Until one day I saw my brother's 6 yo daughter, my niece. She was a sweet, cute little child, like most children that age are and it suddenly hit me, "sure, this little kid is disobedient, willful and difficult at times, of course they are, it's completely normal. But nothing this or any other kid this age could do could be bad enough to deserve being beaten like I was." That's when I realized my mom wasn't just a little on the harsh side, she was a child abuser. I'd go as far as to say a monster because, despite having all the advantages in life, a loyal husband who provided well for her, a big farm when she wanted it, then an even bigger house, still on a lot of acreage in a warmer climate when she wanted that and her never experiencing any of the stresses most people face, she never grew up and got better. She stayed extremely narcissistic and brutally abusive to other people all through her life. She died at 62 of cancer, eaten up, I believe, by the hate and self centeredness she chose to be full of her entire life. I weep for the little boy in you, Mark, who still feels the pain of the blows. I weep for you and I weep for me. We're big, burly, tough guys, successful, with our shit together. But inside the screaming, jerking little boy is still there. Mothers and fathers: please stop hitting your children. Children need to be trained and discipline will be part of that training but hitting them is lazy on your part and it isn't a substitute for training or discipline, it's just flat out abuse.

Being an agnostic is the most honest stance to take. Unfortunately God hasn't revealed itself to any of us.
