The Covid Bassoon Quartet, as the name suggests, is the child of a long period of semi-lockdown and isolation from fellow musicians. My intention is to explore the repertoire for bassoon quartets and trios, using the only resource at my disposal - myself. The results, as I've discovered, are always imperfect. It's amazing how one bassoonist - using the same reed and instrument - can still play out of tune with himself and - despite click track or conductor - can miss entries or miscalculate rhythms. Still, as a way of learning new music and giving myself an incentive to keep practicing, the ensemble serves a valuable purpose. I hope it will also prove to be entertaining.

The first piece I'm posting is possibly the only one that's well known - at least to bassoonists - a minor classic by a major composer.
