A beautiful adult Ribbon eel in open water, looking for a new home! How do we know he is a man?

Ribbon eels are a very unique marine species. Everyone starts their life as a man. They are born black with yellow dorsal fins.

Black turns blue when males mature. Finally, at the end of their life, when they reach a size of about 1 meter, they turn completely yellow and turn into matter. At that time, they only survive long enough to lay their eggs and then die.

That is why they are called protantric, a kind of life cycle that they only share with clownfish.

Also, it is very rare to see them in the open water, because they prefer to live in a cozy hole, with their heads out and waiting for a silly prayer to come very close.
