You know, when I think about it, this depiction of Kong feels like he's in a transitionary phase from the Skull Island movie, to the GvK version. I see it like this: He's avenged his parents, he's grown taller and stronger, he's the toughest thing on Skull Island. So, he grows a bit of an ego, thinking he doesn't have to stratergize or think things through. No need to think about his actions, which gets him in trouble. And after that tribe on the shore is destroyed, and his friend killed as a side effect of that carlessness, it hurts him, but it changes his mindset when it comes to fighting. This episode shows how Kong grew from a wreckless youngster, to the more resourceful and strategic fighter we see in the iconic Hong Kong fight.

I agree with you, that if something is good, you'll enjoy it piecemeal.
I like taking my time with things, it gives me more time to think about what I'm watching/reading/playing.

Nah, I like this format where you review each episode completely & thorough. So many things missed by binge reviewers imo. I have a new appreciation for the original 1954 Gojira thanks to this channel & would love to see you review the entire gamut of Godzilla / Gamera / Kong offerings tbh.

4:05 Actually, there is something that specifies this show taking place before the "Birth of Kong" comic. In the second episode, the Vietnam vet that gave Mike and his dad the map to Skull Island said that the 1973 expedition was *_twenty years ago, _* meaning this show takes place in 1993, just two years before Aaron Brooks' unauthorized second Monarch expedition.

My theory for why the bird and kong are on such good terms is probably a potential symbiotic relationship
If godzilla has mothra as his wing-woman then it's interesting to see kong get something equivalent to that

However i will guess this bird probably dies at some point in s2 since itself never seen again

At least Spear's name made sense because that's the weapon that he uses on Primal.

I think that a reason that a lot of people feel you should have binged it is because I think this should have been edited down into a hour and 40 minute movie extending episode 7 and editing down bettering the dialog in the "Modern" section, this could have made a good Kong movie.

Just watch it however you want to, it's your viewing experience and your channel after all.

Such a great episode. And a great set up for Kong and Jia relationship and how ridiculously cocky Kong is and I love seeing that side to him and it gets him into trouble. 4:14 the one soldier from that flashback from episode 2 said it's been 20 years since he rescued those survivors back in 1973 so it's obvious that this show is set in 93 two years before birth of Kong is set. Since Kong is still dealing with the death of his friend I think this flashback is set at least a year before the events of this show

I’ve always been partial to th’ various 90s Adaptations Of „The Addams Family“ (yes, even „New Addams Family“) myself…

The reason why this Skull Island feels so disconnected from the one in the movies is because the show takes place in another area. So every question like

“Where is the Iwi village”

“Where is the boneyard”

“Where’s the peak where Gunpei and Marlow fought”

“Why we never saw this temple in the movies before”

can be answered with “They are in a different area in the island.”

And about the temple, keep in mind season 2 is already written so it might get destroyed in season 2 explaining why we never saw it in the movies.

The show’s director said Legendary gave plenty of freedom for the story, they placed the show right after Kong Skull Island and before Birth of Kong, because it’s the least problematic place in the timeline.

The writers and director can do anything they want as long as it doesn’t contradict the movies or comics, and so far it hasn’t. They were also given freedom to come up with their own creatures, explaining why we only see cameos of creatures from the movies.

I’ll be honest the whole series shouldn’ve just been like episode 7 as it was honestly the best episode it had some good action, great animation and some genuinely emotional moments all without a single line of dialogue honestly the whole series should’ve just been about kong and the island woman instead of the 3 kids who are Annoying, incredibly unlikeable and argue constantly

I was disappointed with this episode cause of how good this story was and not being the main story. As oppose to land of the lost rejects starring Annie this episode was at least decent. What bothers me most about this episode is would be a setup in contrast to Annie and Dog. How it is meant to tell us that Annie and Dog have yet to have a complete bond. So far in this series it feels like a jumbled origin story to Annie. A faux hero's journey. But I am not buying it. I'll voice my reason when you get to episode 8 Omni.
