The Trump administration ordered the termination of more than 6,000 Internal Revenue Service employees last week. According to a local union, that includes roughly 1,000 IRS workers in Kansas City alone. Donna Ginther, director of the Institute for Policy and Social Research at the University of Kansas, joins "America Decides" to discuss the potential economic ramifications.

80 years old. My experience is that when thousands lose their jobs and can't spend one extra penny! They dont go to
Walmart except for absolutely the cheapest thing they must have. Next thing you know Walmart is laying off and so on. Its never easy to go through a ressession, however, my dad lived through the depression and that was bad!

No, really? Suddenly firing thousands of people has economic consequences? Color me shocked!

Yes. Not only the job loss, but local businesses are affected. In addition, when they reduce workforce, they also reduce corporate welfare in the arena of federal contracts. Those corporations will have layoffs. Don't worry everyone, tariffs will fix everything.

Really? Eliminating tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of jobs will negatively affect the economy? Who would have thought...

We’ve been on the cliff of a recession for a few years now.

Why even bother filing taxes this year if no one will process the returns.

I was managing a federal grant for my city, that needed input from HUD and EPA. I got two federal officers on a call at 6.30 AM their time zone coz that's the only time I could make it work (deadlines). The only people who think feds are lazy are people who have never actually worked with these people.

Fired them cause they use fed funds then they all go on unemployment at same time and use federal funds …I’m confused how does this help the $ is so low effect to the budget and these positions are important to our country. Survival.

It won’t be the doge cuts. We’ve been in a recession for years. I’ve been in business 10 years, 2024 was my worst year.

No more corporate welfare, you listening Walmart? Defense spending is too high. Tax billionaires, no more loophole's. Politicians pay for their own healthcare insurance. No more secret service for trump when he takes more than two weeks vacation. Most workers get two weeks off. It costed millions for him to go to the Superbowl and NASCAR, golf etc.

Everyone who was fired/laid off paid taxes. The tax dollars are gone from the federal and state coffers.
