Our next concert is May 2020, where we'll be performing this piece of music. I've uploaded this and other learning tracks predominantly for my choir's usage, but I hope any others who struggle to learn in their own rehearsals will find this useful. Please let me know of any mistakes!

Purcell's autograph manuscript finishes with this anthem, though it appears unfinished. Rutter writes the "despairing text raises Purcell's imagination to its highest level, yet the basic melodic material is simple: two melancholy notes a minor third apart, countered by the plangent, turning chromaticism of 'crying'. The harmonic language is exceptional."
