Leaving The Rat Race To Live In Bali - Benaz | Beached #13

Kurdish born Benaz moved to Sweden when she was twelve years old. She earned herself a Masters in Engineering and had a well-payed job running a pharmaceutical company.

In a lot of people’s eyes, she had ‘made it’. But the pressure and long hours wore her down, leaving Benaz in much need of a holiday. She came to Bali with her boyfriend and within the first few days fell in love with the place, deciding this is where she wanted to live.

After a couple of years of living in Bali part-time she finally made a more permanent move two years ago, giving up a reliable salary in Sweden to pursue her passion for photography.

It wasn’t an easy transition, but she figured out how to make a living as a photographer and now spends most of her time teaching others who want the freedom to work and travel the world making money through photography.

#SOBBeached is an interview series giving a voice to some of the surfers featured in our videos.

That was awesome. That takes a lot of faith and guts to do what she did! Very cool lady. I did the same thing, but I was 49.

I cracked up when you put the spacesuit on her!
Thank you very much. I'm really enjoying this series

Was there in late 80s and the Balinese were so peaceful and humble all was rural mostly still. The scenery was so beautiful I was in a trance all days and when they did that incense at dusk it was magic for me the whole town smelling incense . We stay in a place right in town for $1/day. The owner and family gave us biscuits and tea every afternoon after coming tired from surf. It was just a room in a family house but it was so peaceful. It was only 12 days but I felt in love with the vibes, place and especially the people. Love to Bali from Ecuador. We are similar.

Glad she made that soul saving transition because shes seems happy. Working a job/ career thats stressful & exhausting can destroy you little by little. Good luck to her.

Good for you. Being able to love yourself is key! If a person does not love themselves its impossible to love another. Words i live by.

That’s funny I just read Bali is the land of rich ex-pats who move there and act like they’re the locals policing the crowd. I guess google suggested this video for me next.

This is what i figured out.. Your 20's to 40's are the time to make your money .. Unless you plan to lie on your back or belly for your retirement you need to work hard when you can, you DONT want to work in your 60's.I worked hard and I got to retire in my 40's . Bali is way better with a pention. Grow up and work.. Ps.. profile picture SUP journal big wave issue at 54 and retired.

I tell my kids, get an education in something you really are interested in. Dont' do it for money. Money is a tool like a hammer. Money is not the goal. Remember you can't buy back time. Once it's gone, you can't buy more. Most of the stuff that the Marketing Shrinks make you think you need, you don't!

Just bail. Minimalism.

Good for her! Live life while you can, while you’re young.
Other doors will open.

I love SOB. I've literally watched all your vids after spending a month in Bali last September. It's my favorite place. Surfed Hawaii, Mexico, Costa Rica, all up and down California. Really, no place is better; affordable, the kindest locals, rad surf, and a wonderful environment. It's getting busy for sure. But, maybe there's room for just one more? Soooo...how do I move there? Lol, but seriously...

There are countries in theEastern Europe that are pretty much abandoned. And you have the Med and the Black Sea and mountains. And the cost of living is maybe half to a third of living in the States.
