This is why monasteries where so great back in the day. People with mental issues could just check in, till fields, brew beer, and work until they got their head straight while still being a benefit to society. When they felt better they would just leave or maybe stay and help others.

Quote of the Day:
"Give a man a purpose and the ability to achieve it and he will crawl over broken glass with a smile."
-Adam Lane Smith (as quoted by Chris Williamson)
Brilliant.

I'd never truly feel respected by a woman if she didn't love me, and I'd never truly feel loved by a woman if she didn't respect me. To me, the two concepts go hand in hand.

If you have to choose between love and respect in a relationship, get out of that relationship
radhiadeedou
Respect and love go hand in hand imo. Both women and men want to be loved AND respected.
Burn
People like to say that men crave respect and women crave love. I would actually argue that, while yes, those things are true, the driving forces for men and women are not respect and love, but purpose and stability. Men thrive when given purpose. Women thrive when they receive stability. The difficulty is in defining and determining what purposes and stability are for each individual and then how to go about achieving them/ putting them into the practice.

If a man does not feel respected first, he will never feel loved either.

As a man…..I don’t want to have to choose respect or love, I want both lol
MidasCat
People say stuff like this because they don’t understand what love is. They think it’s a feeling or something like that. We all crave love! And being respected is a part of that.

Living things are "loved" by getting what they need. Men, women, cats, dogs, guinea pigs all have different needs. You "love" a being by giving it what it need whether you feel like it or not. "Respect" is a critical way a wife can love a husband. It's a kind of love, not an alternative to love.

There is no real love between adults without respect. Without it, one of them is denigrated automatically in being thought of as a child. And they will know it soon enough.

I'm a woman and Respect is EVERYTHING to me! Once I'm Respected daily by my partner, his love and admiration follows by default!

I left my man of 10 years because he didn’t show me an ounce of respect. Love is respect. If you need to have a podcast to argue that it’s not, it’s no wonder you’re alone..

I quote Dr. Laura Schlesinger a lot and I read this in one of her books a when I was a young girl. A man will happily work all day every day for the rest of his life for the woman he loves. Men are capable but they need something to do the work for. Women can be their cheerleaders; encouraging them along the way and praising them when they succeed. Man or woman, we need to be appreciated for the work we do.

Define the difference between love and respect. We all need both.

Paul said something similar in Ephesians 5:33 "However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband."

I always thought you can't have love without respect

I was lost and sad. Then I got tired of it, sat down and wrote down a plan and purpose. Changed my life.

I don't think love can exist without respect.
Admiration, lust, sympathy, empathy etc...those feelings can exist without respect, but love, no.
