When he wants the mic turned on, he signals or there's a cue for the engineers to know. Most times, it's very seemless. The one at the grammy wasn't.

End of the day Michael was human even tho he seemed like more. I sing at home all the time and I sing michael songs, I'm fortunate enough to be able to hit the deep and high notes like him and that shit starts hurting. People don't understand how important it is to save your voice.
