In my opinion, chord melody is what the sound of jazz guitar really is - part of what differentiates it from the melodic instruments it might often play alongside.

definitely chord melody/chord soloing. its hard to be melodically cohesive while still being harmonically coherent at that point, especially when you get into solo guitar (not guitar soloing!) playing.

Well, it depends. Single note soloing is a big challenge for me. But comping is so important in a band setting.
