a slight misunderstanding. the CMB is not "light from the big bang", that light is lost. the universe was too full of plasma for that light to make it through. HOWEVER, at some point in time, the plasma cooled down, and at that point, light could make it through. the CMB is light from the last "ambers" of plasma, as it died down.
