Inside Dubai's $20 Billion Dollar Mall

The Dubai mall is the second largest mall in the entire world. It took Emaar Properties four years and $20 billion to build, and you can do a lot more there than just shop. The mall features designer shopping in its Fashion Avenue as well as traditional souvenirs and Arabic fashion in The Souk. You can also check out The Village to feel like you’re walking down an atmospheric Parisian street. But when shopping gets old, you can check out the amusement park, go go-karting or skating on the Olympic-sized Dubai ice-rink, or buy tickets to the famous Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo, featuring sharks right in the middle of the mall. You can also have fun at VR Park Dubai or check out Hysteria, the terrifying haunted house.

Location is everything, and the mall has a prime spot right beside the Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Fountain. There’s also plenty to see inside the mall, like a real dinosaur fossil called the Dubai Dino and a replica of the Dubai Creek Tower, the world’s tallest tower. You can also enjoy luxury in the mall’s high-end hotel or you can go shopping for gold that’s about 15% cheaper than anywhere else in the world. The mall also features 120 cafes and restaurants including Logma and Walnut Grove, where you can get delicious food while taking in a view of Dubai’s downtown. When I was in the Navy during Desert Storm, we went to Dubai several times for breaks from patrol. You could literally walk the entire city in about a hour. The Main Street was about a half mile long and at the end was a Pizza Hut. There was a KFC on this street. Forget about KFC because it literally had a line out the door all day long. The Gold Suc was about 15 minutes away from Main Street . Jewelry was cheap there compared with the U.S. I think we can safely say that Dubai has grown by a little bit.

I used to be an event coordinator for Emaar, all their properties are ultra luxury from the Downtown Burj (where all the major properties located such as the Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall and the Palace), The Equestrian Club, Dubai Marina Yacht Club to The Address and Amani hotels. I remember we've set up a floating pontoon on the middle of the sea between JBR and the Palm Island for a very wealthy couple's engagement proposal. A dinner for two with a mini kitchen and bar set-up and violinist with lots of beautiful flower arrangement. The bride to be was taken to the set-up by a yacht blindfolded the Wala! It was so extravagant but very romantic. I hope they still together now! ;-) I had a great time working there then I left Dubai to immigrate here in Canada.
