How did Machu Picchu's water system provide to 1,000 a day?

This water system is not to be underestimated. In the short video the water feed for the city of 1,000 people was built into its architecture of megalithic stones that allowed water for the 1,000 inhabitants and NOT mix with the drain water. How's that done?
