I built a hinged setup like this in the past. Few tips I used to improve the design for year round use. 1) Concrete path blocks or similar to get the wood off the ground. Prevents rot even with pressure treated. 2) Rebar anchor into the ground. Basically drill a couple of holes to hammer rebar into the ground and secure the base. remove rebar to move the setup. 3) WIND SUCKS. Make sure to create a locking mechanism on the vertical support holding up the panels. to keep the solar panels from pivoting in the wind. Yes Panels are heavy but they also act like a sail and with enough wind can flip forward. 4) Paint the wood. It's cheap, akes your rig look better and adds to the durability of your setup. I have mine lasting for over a decade.

*photovoltaic/solar thermal technician here: I APPROVE!* add another 2x4 across all so you can add sandbags so wind doesn't blow over creating a *self ballast* sand bags might not be good idea, water in 5 gallon buckets since you travel. if were permanent fixture then sandbags. *Good Job Brother!*

Very nice build, however i would add braces in the middle as wood will warp over time.

Thank you for making this video. I have been looking at cheaper ways to install solar panels. The market is so expensive

I’m sorry but this is the best setup I’ve seen!!! Deserves a lot more likes.

Very nice. If I built one I'd probably add some large caster wheels so you can easily move it to service/repair it or adjust the position for better sunlight.

I have 4 separate solar PV panel arrays in my backyard. I used furniture dolly’s, 1/2” galvanized pipe, zip ties, etc. I have several nylon ropes attacked to tent stakes in the ground. 5 years so far and these have withstood 50+mph winds. Since they’re on wheels I can quickly move them to collect morning sun or evening sun daily for max solar input. They’re easy to clean too.

Love it. Because our ground speed wind gets up to 70 out here, I would add a center leg.

Nice, set up!

I am making a 4 panel 400w, ground mount with the same concept. Except it's supported with Sched 40, 1" PVC.

I'm using two tee connectors with legs (capped) to control angle (26° Low) winter vs (51° High) summer.

It will be up off the ground (by 12") for any (above avg) snow.

I absolutely love this. Its simple, fully adjustable, easy to build, and low overall cost.
I've looked at several other wood adjustable ground mount systems.
But I'll be using a variant of this system.

I have a 30x25 flat roof garage. Roof has edpm rubber. This is great idea. Will use stronger door hinges and drilled angle stops with lunch pins galvanized iron to hold the rack angle. Add sandbags to keep it in place, yet movable when needed. Also add edpm to enclose the frame for water resistance of wiring. The edpm can be glued together with rubber cement to seal it. Great video, thx!!

Good job! I like the design but I'm thinking of using unistrut and some 18" anchors on the 4 corners. A lot lighter and much easier to move, set up etc & with the anchors you get serious wind protection.

Love it! Needs wheels like a movable chicken coup!

Here is the short video. Ours was much larger, but we tried to follow the idea. We worked from 6 to 430.. we will continue to beef it up. Then we do the second one.

Cool. I have a couple big panels that I want to make movable and that looks good hoping to find a couple cheap wheels for one end and use a couple of those corkscrew dog stakes with a ratchet tie down.

Very nice I like the idea of portable and folding down. 👌
