Welcome to 'Introduction to Probability and Statistics' course !

This lecture explores different data types, focusing on the distinction between categorical and numerical data. It introduces nominal, ordinal, interval, and ratio scales of measurement.
Categorical Data Responses belong to groups or categories. For example, male/female.
Numerical Data:Uses numerical values as responses. For example, age or height.
Data can be classified into four types:
Nominal Data:Categories with no implied order (e.g., colors).
Ordinal Data:Categories with an order or rank (e.g., education levels).
Interval Data: Numerical data where differences are meaningful, but ratios are not (e.g., temperature in Celsius).
Ratio Data: Numerical data where both differences and ratios are meaningful (e.g., height).

NPTEL Courses permit certifications that can be used for Course Credits in Indian Universities as per the UGC and AICTE notifications.

why is ordinal data qualitative if the number has a meaning to it? Like rank is ordinal but why is it under qualitative data?
