Honestly this is what game remakes should be, not games under a decade old, but ones from AGES ago that could benefit from modern graphics and design concepts.

Whichever team developed the remake did such a collective great job that I imagined that the designers for the original had a dream but were held back by the limitations of computer graphics technologies of the time (not just the limitations of the Mega Drive hardware).

Basic rundown of the differences between versions.

Old Oak Tree: Its design now has a more elderly appearance with arms and legs. Partway through, it gains a jumping attack, and can do a drilling rush at 1hp.

Jack in the Box: The goofy shoes are gone and its boxing gloves only come out during specific attacks. Fight is now 3D for some parts. Changes attacks every time it takes damage, including a sweeping attack, a spinning top attack, and a shockwave variant of the jump attack.

Storm Men: More of them overall. Fight now has an underwater phase where the Storm Men will chase you as falling debris surrounds you. Can also do a tongue attack during the land phase.

Licorice Dragon: Can't be damaged until it bites a platform, but luckily has way less health. Also throws -cookies- macarons at the platforms before biting, and has very brief chase sequences between hits.

Oafish Clockmaker: Jumping on him no longer actually deals damage. Instead, he has a spinning attack which lets you deal damage by luring him towards a bell in a 3D section.

Mizrabel: Drops the Kirby-style teleporting entirely in favor of longer and more varied ghost patterns. Fight is also in 3D, and platforms rise after every attack. Also she won't shut the hell up.

Gotta say, this was pretty darn impressive. Every boss captured the essence of the original but updated it for the 3d platform environment. If I had to be nit-picky, the dragon seemed somewhat underdeveloped and a lot shorter than the other bosses for the position in the game it was. The rest more than made up for it though, and that final battle was incredible.

Imma say this. I’ve never heard of this game, but that boss tune on the original kinda hits hard.

0:58 I like how he explodes like eggman in classic sonic games, even the sound is the same 😂

Castle of Illusion on Genesis is a stone-cold classic. One of the greatest early platformers on the system along with Ghouls and Ghosts and Strider. Still got the cart, box, and manual.

i like how they kept the overall same idea as the boss fights from the original game but adding a little twist to it as well

“He must not prevail!” Does the same attack that has led up to every single hit on her

2 things different between the bosses of both versions

1. All the bosses in original version (Except Mizrabel) have the same them when in the remake they all have different variations of the same theme

2. The original version of the Storm-Men fight has 5 and the remake version of it has 6

I like the graphics and sound design more in the new one but the music was so much better in the older one.

The storm men were a menace in the remake I struggle with them the most when I was younger

For those of u who are wondering what happened to the green gem, u get the green gem in the giant library/library chase scene where u chase Shadow Mickey across the giant library and eventually u catch up to him and get the green gem.

If only Disney put this much effort in their live action remakes.

I like the upgraded visuals and difficulty of the remakes, but prefer the music of the original. The original actually sounds like boss music.

Love the little hip wiggle and hands behind the back in the original. Groovy Mickey looks like he is up to cause trouble. The water boss was a good change.

I didn't take so bad the change between 2D to 3D in games, close to the cgi in films as a whole! In game industry this development was like it was born for the specific media!

The graphics of a Disney game from 2012 still hold up today somehow
