As I sat thinking how apocalyptic the world in such a setting would be, I slowly realized how darksouls-like this would be.

"With their divity scattered the gods now walk amongst us as casualties of their own war. They have forgotten their purpose and power, we have gathered here to restore what has been shattered"

Id play a celestial warlock or a fighter cleric multi-class for story reasons.

This would be really cool depending on what gods you use because there are some gods that literally keep the world from just straight up ending so that would be a really cool apocalypse scenario

I’d probably play this as a powerful arch devil who feeds off of conflict, knowing this would surely spark one of the greatest conflicts mankind has ever seen. As a player I’d probably wanna run paladin, just trying to keep it together in the wake of such a maddening and destructive event

Som crazed demonic sorcerer probably would be a fitting person to be responsible. But i would definitely would want to play as a paladin even better if it was an Aasimar paladin

The dragons placed the spell. They were still seething over the loss of the war between dragons and gods and the Dragonborn crossing into this timeline has finally given the dragon deities the power to cast the non-draconic deities back down to their rightful places.

Also I'd play a dragonborn dragonblood sorcerer or pyromancer

Although not that interesting, I would say likely Loki or whomever resides over mischief would pull this off. What better mischief to pull off than to let Creators be stranded on the world they're supposed to manage? To let Clerics and Paladins come face to face with what they worship and the chaos of having GOOs and Warlock contracted evil being scattered around the world. It would essentially turn the world into a observatory to whomever cause the chaos.

What class personally would I play? Either a Gunslinging Fighter that sees how futile it is to use a black powder projectile against a deity or a Cleric who has a hard time coming to terms what they worship walks amongst them

Isn't that the Forgotten Realms Avatar series and the time of troubles?

A single rat with ac and pack tactics is responsible and is the only suitable class

I think it would be fun if I made the god the god which one of my players paladin/cleric characters worshipped. It would make the encounter with it way more impactful

The god of caffeine took an unscheduled vacation without leaving instructions on how to operate the divine coffee pot. The Warlock of soda comes to the rescue. Instant promotion.

Iirc, wasn't this an actual thing, where the gods were forcred into mortal form by Ao?

I don't know many villains in dnd who would do this. Maybe a powerful demon from the Abyss?

I feel like any religious class will feel all sorts of messed up…
