ALGONQUIN IN THE FALL

This is my 4 day backcountry camping trip in Algonquin Park from October 2021. My dog Scout and I Started at Opeongo Lake access point #11. We took the Algonquin Outfitters water taxi to shuttle my Swift Prospector 14 pack boat across the big lake to the Proulx portage and make our way to explore one of the best lookouts in the park.

We hiked the Giant pines trail which can be found on the Crow river just south of the 240m portage leading into Crow Bay.

The fire tower trail starts just behind the Big Crow cabin. Campers can reserve and stay at the cabin, so be courteous and respectful to your fellow campers as to not disrupt their camping experience.

When tripping through Algonquin, I navigate using Jeff's Maps and some screen shots of the maps are in the video. I purchased my maps years ago and are always with me on my trips.

Just found our 1983 Algonquin Canoe Route map that dad and I used to get to Big Crow. It was our first canoe trip and we paddled the mighty Opeongo (not fun). The water taxi would have been smarter. We stayed at the site to the North East where a moose and her calf walked right by us. The trail was a very narrow path back then. Thanks again Jay, great memories for me.

Love this video! Glad to see we made it in the video! We did the exact same trip as you did. I proposed to my girlfriend of 22 years at the top of the of the tower on this trip. It was a lot of fun to look back, through your eyes on this trip one year later now married =D. If scout was off trail she probably was smelling Rielly lol! Thanks for posting!
