Looks good, I think I’ll place the mulling spices in a cheese cloth and just remove before mixing in the cake box, very nice recipe, thank you for sharing 😊

My mom. ..bless her....always made a fruit cake every Christmas.... not drinkers but borrowed some liquor for her cakes 😊 ... i bet the those cinnamon sticks would make great stir sticks for spiced cider..👍👍👍❤❤❤

I like using milk instead of water when baking.
Were the spices overbearing since you ramped up the spices even more? In someone else's baking video, they said that you really have to love spice cake because the flavor is very strong.

You end up tipping the fruit into a bowl to add cake mix so don't macerate the fruit in the can where you left the mulling spices to work only on the top layer. Mix it all in the bowl at the start but cut your spices way back. You only need 1 cinnamon stick for this amount. And only 1 tsp spices. Take care though, some mulling spices will be gritty and hard if eaten. It would be better to use ground spice to avoid that. I know you like to overdo sessoning but in cookery, less is often more in terms of flavour.

Someone is going to break a tooth 😢… you can make a cheese cloth pouch for those loose spices..
A square of cheesecloth cut to the right size.., draw up each corner together then gather up sides, then tie a good strong string around that …pull pouch out of fruit when ready to make cake…
