It might interest you to know that we have an election coming up in Scotland on the 6th of May. It’s kinda looking likely that Scotland will finally be able to push for independence of the right people get voted for. I’m hopeful that we’ll become independent in the next few years.

But because England’s response to Covid has been so bad, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales have all had to suffer too. It’s really starting to look like the end of the Union (thankfully)

So, the video says that Scotland entered into a union with England which is true but something which wasn't mentioned is how it happened. Basically, England asked Scotland to join them but Scotland refused. Then Scotland endured two famines which wrecked the economy. As a last ditch effort to save the country, Scotland used most of the remaining funds to set up a trading location in a very good spot. This should have worked and it most likely would have but England was still determined to gain control of Scotland by any means necessary. To achieve this, England put an embargo on trade with Scotland, stopping everyone else from trading with the Scottish. This caused Scotland's last hope to fail and so the country had no choice but to accept a bribe from England and join what would become known as the UK.

Also, the video used some very deceptive language in the part about Brexit and left some very important details out. First of all, the video says that "the rest of Great Britain voted to leave". The problem here is that the UK is not synonymous with Great Britain. Great Britain is just the island containing Scotland, England and Wales whereas the UK also includes Northern Ireland. Brexit was a referendum involving and affecting the entire UK (including Northern Ireland). Scotland and Northern Ireland both voted to remain in the EU. In fact, the percentage of Scottish and Northern Irish people who voted remain was much higher than the percentage of English and Welsh people who voted to leave. However, the political system in the UK has always been deliberately designed so that England can use their larger population to outvote everyone else.

Secondly, during the Scottish independence referendum, the Better Together campaign repeatedly promised that if Scotland stayed in the UK, our place in the EU would be safe and secure. That was their main argument because the YES campaign was still negotiating with the EU and it was uncertain whether we would get in or not. This promise was the entire reason why so many people voted no to independence. Then as soon as the referendum was over, England immediately broke their promise, held the Brexit referendum and forced us out of the EU against our will. This is why we are desperate for a second independence referendum (England's shocking mishandling of the pandemic hasn't helped either).

It is fair tht scotland voted to remain and england voted 2 leave we voted as britain not as 4 independent nations so if they majority says we should leave the EU thn so be it thts what u call democracy.
