The fact that Bowser is actually offended by the idea that Mario only tries to save Peach because of what is essentially "thoughts and prayers" is both hilarious and oddly wholesome. He WANTS his victory to be a test of his skill, not a predetermined fate.

I love how mario is just basically a prop through this whole exchange. Picked up by the neck, YEETED across the room, laying on the ground nose-forward... Even though he's the game's main character, he's just... A background element, lol

Because he knows full well what bowser saying that means for him

bowser completely forgets that his castle has been taken over by the same dudes who got rid of the power of wishes

Bowser speaks of the insignificance of wishes, yet the following RPG has him steal all the wish making for himself. And Mario saves Peach anyway.

That ironically proves Bowser's point.
