Americans often talks so much, and saying so little. She could've said "I wanted to travel, experience other countries, and learn other languages, that's why I left the US." in one sentence.

I've seen so many posts on reddit the last few days from Americans who want to move to Germany/Europe now after the election. Especially women and queer people. My heart goes out to them.

Ryan, you should never be afraid of trying something new.
Should you suddenly have the time and the money to travel to Europe, then just reach out to some of the European subscribers on your channel here. I think you would be surprised to find how many Europeans would be more than ready to help you getting a good experience in Europe.
The biggest challenge for any person is to just do it some day. After you have done it once, you will always want to do it again.

On a New Zealand news channel i was watching this morning they were interviewed a New Zealand health department employment official who said that since the American election they have received 300 + applications from American doctor's.

As a Brit I lived and worked in the USA for 9 years, at what I feel was the best time to do it: 1991 to 2000. U.S. problems were already beginning to show, which is why I came back to the U.K.!

With Trump somehow elected, I wouldn't want to leave the USA. I want to leave the planet.

For me and my wife the decision to move to France was easy after the birth of our daughter. We moved primarily to have solid healthcare which wouldn't jeopardize our savings if we were dealing with a serious health issue. Second, while both my wife and I made a good living, enough to purchase rental properties, we soon learned if we wanted to have any meaningful time raising our daughter ourselves, we couldn't stay in the US. Here in France, we make a lot less but we work 35ish hours a week, have 5 weeks of vacation. I won't say it's all stars and unicorns here in France; there are major trade offs but if having work/life balance is important, Europe is better than US.

If we do have "a big influx of Americans" as a result of your election, I might suggest for their own wellbeing, they adopt a Canadian identity.
Unsurprisingly, many Americans don't seem to have considered that we Europeans know there'll probably be serious consequences for us over the next few years, and many of us aren't exactly enamored with America right now.

I lived in the USA for over a decade in the late nineties and early zero’s, America had some pretty serious issues at that time and it was a pretty violent place in general compared to what I was used to, the reason I returned home was because I didn’t want to raise the children in the US . Healthcare didn’t really bother me as I had very good health insurance but then again I was very well paid, the USA is not somewhere I would want to be living if I was not very well paid as their system does not give much assistance to the poor . I would also like to say that the individual states within the USA are far more autonomous than most Europeans appreciate and there is often very large differences between individual states especially when it comes to taxes, healthcare and education some states have heavily subsidised third level education which while rarely free is not massively expensive and often a good quality education. In my experience the variation between states in the USA is not dissimilar to the difference between countries in Europe. When I lived there I think that the thing I found most interesting was that a very large portion of the population was either quite or very religious and a lot of people were very put out if you were not, I learned very quickly not to advertise that I didn’t believe in any religion or god because it offended the majority of people, for a reason that remains unknown to me.

The lesson I learned early in life was if you ain't satisfied with your life where you are buy a god-damned ticket and move. It's far better than whining and blaming others. I left the USA over half a century ago. Life in Europe has not exactly been a bed of roses, but it sure beats a bed of thorns as in the States.

As a fellow European i really recommend you to travel to Europe at some point. USA is a relativily modern country and here you feel history as you walk throw the cities, besides the food quality and the cultural differences with the different countries that form Europe. The fact that youre interested in Europe is a good sign

I also missed all the study abroad opportunities when I was younger
I did, however, have a career opportunity in Switzerland shortly after graduating University
That was 35 years ago and I never looked back

I had a 3-week holiday in Australia when I was 11,
I emigrated there at 23!
Absolutely the best decision of my life.

Just do it! Two of the countries I've lived in I had never been to before I moved there, and I didn't speak the language. Switzerland was a bit confusing at first (three languages regularly spoken, only one of which I spoke and I got very confused about what language people were using) but Denmark was just fine, partly because nobody could confuse Danish with anything else... I've lived in five countries in the last 20 years and I'm nearly 60. Course you can.

I hate it when people use the word expat instead of just saying immigrant.

What many Americans are not aware of is that in order to move to Europe permanently they need the equivalent of a green card, which is no easier to get than a US green card.
