My Dad told me that the natives put bells around the ankles of the children so it would chase the wildlife away and the parents could find them if they wandered off.

Always wear little bells on your clothes and carry pepper spray. Also know the difference between black bears and grizzlies. For example, black bear scat is dark, loose and has remnants of berries and squirrel fur in it. Grizzly bear scat is lighter in colour, more solid and smells of pepper and may have little bells in it.

We just hug a bear in Russia. Bears are very pleasant animals. Always protect bears and all animals!

If a bear is brown, lay down. If a bear is black, fight back. If a bear is white, say goodnight !

No mention of the 12 guage/slug deterrent?

Rarely does CBC allow comments. I guess that's why they get so many dislikes in most of their clips.

And put a portable electric bear fence around your campsite. There’s one out there weighing only 2.4 lbs and it’s really capable. Passive deterrence for a good night’s sleep.

A domestic dog off leash sounds like a treat to the Canadian wildlife.

Spray is statistically best but is not effective 100% of the time (see the video of the guy attacked twice by a Grizz despite him blasting it with spray). With that in mind a firearm as a backup is a good idea. However no guns are allowed in National Parks. In Canada handguns are restricted so, if taking a firearm where allowed, ensure it is non restricted.

Experience reveals that bear spray only works on nuisance bears and not on enraged bears intent on attacking you. Carrying a combination of bear spray and a bear gun work best.

Well here in America, the answer is to carry a 357/44/500 Magnum.

Funny actually. Back in 2017 June 18th (three years to the day of the release of this video) while stealth camping in the Rockies, not far from Rogers Pass, I faced down a black bear that was ripping open the bike panniers. I had pepper spray and screamed at it, arms out and made it run off. I was lucky.
